Islamists Fund Operations With Drug Money

If you are a supporter of any of those Islamic militant groups and think that they will always utilize just means in their struggles, then think it over.

Years of careful research and investigations revealed that, just like powerful cartels have made a fortune in the drug trade, now Islamic terrorist groups are following their examples to get the money to fund their operations.

For many, this might be not new. Aceh Freedom Movement, the former Islamic militant group who fought for Aceh freedom from Indonesia, funded their operations by selling and smuggling hashish to other provinces of the country, especially to the Republic’s capital of Jakarta.

The similar way has been taken by al-Qaeda, Hezbollah and other islamic terror groups with the help of Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.

Investigations and research on intelligence data found that Venezuela under Hugo Chavez has become one of the major ports for drug trafficking across the whole world, especially to Europe and the United States.

The Trans-Atlantic Drug Trade

The transit point for cocaine bound for Europe is West Africa. Through the region, multi-billion dollar drug businesses have been flourished.

Drugs shipped from Venezuela will be guarded and escorted by al-Qaeda and Hezbollah to the final destination in Europe.

Roger Noriega, a former US Ambassador to the Organization of American States told the reporters that Venezuela President Hugo Chavez is well aware that drug shipments are flowing from his territory.

“Virtually every flight that goes to West Africa today that is bearing cocaine or other drugs, is coming from Venezuela,” he said.

“We have explicit evidence, and our government has sanctioned Venezuelan officials who have been involved in drug trafficking,” Noriega continued. “So we know that the regime is complicit for years, and that Chavez has to have knowledge and approve of this kind of trafficking”.

“This is a guy who claims to know every time a US Coast Guard cutter comes close to his country or flies close to his territory,” he added. “How can he claim to not be aware of 737s full of cocaine loading up in western Venezuela? He has to know about this kind of trafficking because it is so substantial”.

Noriega also told the reporters that Chavez has longstanding ties to Colombian drug traffickers, even before he became the president of Venezuela.

“It’s well established that even before he was president he had ties to the guerillas and these narco-traffickers,” he said. “And he has basically made Venezuelan territory readily available to them to transit cocaine and other drugs”.

‘Port’ Venezuela

Recent reports from both the United Nations and the US State Department revealed Venezuela has become a major trafficker to Europe and elsewhere.

“And it is not only going to West Africa,” Noriega said. “It is going up through the Caribbean and through the central American peninsula on its way to the United States. Chavez’s complicity in drug trafficking is a cheap way for him to wage asymmetrical warfare against his toughest opponents, including the United States”.

An African government official even admitted that thousands of drug shipments depart each year from northeastern Venezuela to West Africa through clandestine flights and/or fishing vessels.

“Once they arrive in West Africa,” he said, “the drugs are transported northward to their final destination of Europe”.

And Rudy Atallah, a former Africa counter-terrorism director for the US Department of Defense and currently the CEO of White Mountain Research said, “West Africa is the logical place in which they can bring their drugs to, break them up and then bring them into Europe”.
Atallah went on saying that Islamic terrorist groups are often waiting in the wings for the arrival of the drugs in Africa.

“Al Qaeda basically charges for the passage of the drugs through their territory,” he explained.
That territory – commonly known as the Islamic Maghreb – stretched from Morocco to Libya, down to Mali. It is also home to an al-Qaeda wing which is called al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb or AQIM.

“There’s a synergy between the drug dealers and AQIM,” Atallah said. “Now, AQIM does not use the drugs. AQIM does not believe in the use of the drugs. But, it’s a way to make money”.
Having its funding sources cracked down all over the world, al-Qaeda turned to drugs to finance its operations.

Recently, three al Qaeda agents from North Africa pleaded guilty to drug smuggling and terrorism charges in a US federal court. They also have admitted cooperating with Colombian drug traffickers.

“That access to money gives al Qaeda capabilities in the future to attack soft targets in Africa,” Atallah said. “And the soft targets could be U.S. embassies, Israeli embassies, French, UK embassies – all open targets in Africa. Also, targets in Europe”.

In its drug smuggling operation, al-Qaeda is following the example of its fellow Islamic terror group Hezbollah. Hezbollah has used drug money to fund its operations for years.

Atallah went on, “Hezbollah spread all across west Africa, starting from Senegal. They have a vast array of connections with the drug dealers. And so, it’s a natural flow where you have facilitations by Hezbollah in Africa to move drugs coming from Latin America to west Africa and up into Europe”.

But drug trade is only one of many income sources for Hezbollah in Africa.
“Hezbollah is involved in the diamond trade, they’re involved in gold, they’re involved in every smuggling business you can get your hands on,” Atallah added. “All the money that Hezbollah makes always goes to Lebanon, to southern Lebanon, to support war against Israel, to support their agenda”. Terror Charges Unsealed in Minneapolis Against Eight Men, Justice Department Announces
Terrorism charges have been unsealed today in the District of Minnesota against eight defendants.

According to the charging documents, the offenses include

Providing financial support to those who traveled to Somalia to fight on behalf of al-Shabaab, a designated foreign terrorist organization;
Attending terrorist training camps operated by al-Shabaab;
Fighting on behalf of al-Shabaab.

Thus far, 14 defendants have been charged in the District of Minnesota through indictments or criminal complaints that have been unsealed and brought in connection with an ongoing investigation into the recruitment of persons from U.S. communities to train with or fight on behalf of extremist groups in Somalia. Four of these defendants have previously pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

The charges were announced today by David Kris, Assistant Attorney General for National Security; B. Todd Jones, U.S. Attorney for the District of Minneapolis; and Ralph S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"The recruitment of young people from Minneapolis and other U.S. communities to fight for extremists in Somalia has been the focus of intense investigation for many months," Assistant Attorney General Kris said. "While the charges unsealed today underscore our progress to date, this investigation is ongoing. Those who sign up to fight or recruit for al-Shabaab’s terror network should be aware that they may well end up as defendants in the United States or casualties of the Somali conflict."

Background

According to court documents,

between September 2007 and October 2009, approximately 20 young men, all but one of Somali descent, left the Minneapolis area and traveled to Somalia, where they trained with al-Shabaab, a designated terrorist organization.
Many of them ultimately fought with al-Shabaab against Ethiopian forces, African Union troops, and the internationally-supported Transitional Federal Government (TFG).
Court documents also state that the first group of six men traveled to Somalia in December 2007. Prior to their departure, the six men, as well as others in the Minneapolis area, raised money for the trips and held meetings in which they made phone calls to alleged co-conspirators in Somalia.
Upon arriving in Somalia, the men from Minneapolis allegedly stayed at safe-houses in Somalia and attended an al-Shabaab training camp.
The al-Shabaab training camp included dozens of other young ethnic Somalis from Somalia, elsewhere in Africa, Europe and the United States.
Purportedly, the trainees were trained by, among others, Somali, Arab and Western instructors in the use of small arms, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and military-style tactics.
Allegedly, the trainees also were indoctrinated with anti-Ethiopian, anti-American, anti-Israeli and anti-Western beliefs.

According to court documents, on Oct. 29, 2008, Shirwa Ahmed, one of the men who left Minnesota in December 2007 and attended the al-Shabaab training camp, took part in one of five simultaneous suicide attacks on targets in northern Somalia. The attacks appeared to have been coordinated. Shirwa Mohamud Ahmed, also known as "Shirwa," drove an explosive-laden Toyota truck into an office of the Puntland Intelligence Service in Bossasso, Puntland.

Other targets included a second Puntland Intelligence Service Office in Bossasso, the Presidential Palace, the United Nations Development Program office and the Ethiopian Trade Mission in Hargeisa. Including the suicide bombers, approximately twenty people were killed in the attacks.

Today in Minnesota, U.S. Attorney B. Todd Jones said of these cases, "The sad reality is that the vibrant Somali community here in Minneapolis has lost many of its sons to fighting in Somalia. These young men have been recruited to fight in a foreign war by individuals and groups using violence against government troops and civilians. Those tempted to fight on behalf of or provide support to any designated terrorist group should know they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Joining U.S. Attorney B. Todd Jones was Ralph S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who added, "It is through the sustained and dedicated efforts of the Minneapolis Joint Terrorism Task Force and the support of the Somali-American community that today we are able to disclose some of the significant progress we have achieved in this critical investigation. At the same time, I emphasize the sole focus of our efforts in this matter has been the criminal conduct of a small number of mainly Somali-American individuals and not the broader Somali-American community itself, which has consistently expressed deep concern about this pattern of recruitment activity in support of al-Shabaab."

Charging Documents Unsealed

The Justice Department announced that three charging documents were unsealed this morning in the District of Minnesota:

United States v. Mahamud Said Omar, 09-CR-242

On Aug. 20, 2009, a federal grand jury returned a five-count indictment charging Mahamud Said Omar with terrorism offenses. According to the indictment, from September 2007 through the present, Omar, who is a Somali citizen but was granted permanent U.S. resident status in 1994, conspired with others to provide financial assistance as well as personnel to terrorists and foreign terrorist organizations.

On Nov. 8, 2009, law enforcement authorities in the Netherlands arrested Omar according to a provisional arrest warrant. The United States has filed its request for extradition. According to documents unsealed this morning, including affidavits in support of the United States’ request for extradition of Omar from the Netherlands, Omar provided money to young men to travel from Minneapolis to Somalia to train with and fight for al-Shabaab.

Omar also allegedly visited an al-Shabaab safe-house and provided hundreds of dollars to fund the purchase of AK-47 rifles for men from Minneapolis.

Omar is in custody in the Netherlands.

United States v. Ahmed Ali Omar, Khalid Mohamud Abshir, Zakaria Maruf, Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan and Mustafa Ali Salat, 09-CR-50

On Aug. 20, 2009, a federal grand jury returned a second superseding indictment charging Ahmed Ali Omar, Khalid Abshir, Zakaria Maruf, Mohamed Hassan and Mustafa Salat with terrorism-related offenses.

These men were charged in the summer of 2009 with

conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and foreign terrorist organizations;
conspiracy to kill, kidnap, maim and injure people outside the United States;
possessing and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence;
Solicitation to commit a crime of violence.

The indictments that detail the charges filed against these co-conspirators also were unsealed today.

None of the five defendants is in custody. All five are believed to be outside of the United States.

United States v. Cabdulaahi Ahmed Faarax

United States v. Abdiweli Yassin Isse

On Oct. 9, 2009, a criminal complaint was filed, charging Cabdulaahi Ahmed Faarax and Abdiweli Yassin Isse with conspiring to kill, kidnap, maim or injure persons outside the United States.

The affidavit filed in support of the complaint states that in the fall of 2007, Faarax and others met at a Minneapolis mosque to telephone co-conspirators in Somalia to discuss the need for Minnesota-based co-conspirators to go to Somalia to fight the Ethiopians.

The affidavit also alleges that later that fall, Faarax attended a meeting with co-conspirators at a Minneapolis residence, where he encouraged others to travel to Somalia to fight and told them how he had experienced true brotherhood while fighting a "jihad" in Somalia. Subsequently, Faarax was interviewed three times by authorities and each time denied fighting or knowing anyone who had fought in Somalia.

The criminal complaint states that Abdiweli Yassin Isse also encouraged others to travel to Somalia to fight the Ethiopians. He purportedly described at a gathering of co-conspirators his own plans to fight "jihad" against Ethiopians, and he raised money to buy airplane tickets for others to make the trip to Somalia for the same purpose.

In raising that money, he allegedly misled community members into thinking they were contributing money to send young men to Saudi Arabia to study the Koran. The complaint that details the charges filed against these co-conspirators also was unsealed today.

Faarax and Isse are not in custody. Both men are believed to be outside of the United States.

Guilty Pleas

The Justice Department also announced that four residents of Minneapolis have entered guilty pleas in connection with this investigation; one resident of Minneapolis awaits trial on charges that he made false statements to the FBI, and one resident of Minneapolis was recently indicted on related charges.

United States v. Kamal Hassan, 09-CR-38

On Feb. 18, 2009, Kamal Said Hassan pleaded guilty to one count of providing material support to terrorists and one count of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, respectively. On Aug. 12, 2009, Hassan pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements to the FBI.

Hassan is in custody awaiting sentencing.

United States v. Abdifatah Yusuf Isse, 09-CR-50

United States v. Salah Osman Ahmed, 09-CR-50

On April 24, 2009, Abdifatah Yusuf Isse entered a guilty plea to one count of providing material support to terrorists. On July 28, 2009, Salah Osman Ahmed entered a guilty plea to one count of providing material support to terrorists.

Isse and Ahmed are in custody awaiting sentencing.

United States v. Adarus Abdulle Ali

On Nov. 2, 2009, Adarus Abdulle Ali pleaded guilty to an information charging him with one count of perjury for making false statements to a federal grand jury in December of 2008.

Ali has been released pending a sentencing hearing.

Additional Pending Cases

United States v. Abdow Munye Abdow

On Oct. 13, 2009, a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging Abdow Munye Abdow with making false statements to the FBI. The indictment alleges that on Oct. 8, 2009, Abdow lied to FBI agents when he was questioned after returning to Minnesota from a road trip to southern California. Abdow purportedly told the agents only one other person traveled with him when, according to officials, four people accompanied him. In addition, Adbow allegedly told the agents he did not know how the rental car in which he rode had been financed when, according to officials, he had used his own debit card to pay for the car.

Abdow has been released pending trial.

United States v. Omer Abdi Mohamed

Mohamed has been released pending trial.

To date, the investigation into the recruitment of young men to join al-Shabaab and those supporting that recruiting effort has been conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force with the assistance and cooperation of the Dutch KLPD; the Dutch Ministry of Justice; Judith Friedman at the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs; the U.S. Department of State; the embassies at Abu Dhabi, UAE; Sanaa, Yemen; and The Hague in the Netherlands; and the Department of Defense. The case is being prosecuted by W. Anders Folk, Assistant U.S. Attorney and William M. Narus, from the Justice Department’s Counterterrorism Section, with assistance having been provided by David Bitkower, formerly of the Counterterrorism Section and currently an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York.

An indictment is a determination by a grand jury that there is probable cause to believe that offenses have been committed by a defendant. A defendant, of course, is presumed innocent until he or she pleads guilty or is proven guilty at trial.

On Nov. 19, 2009, Omer Abdi Mohamed was arrested on charges that he conspired to provide material support to terrorists; that he provided material support to terrorists; and that he conspired to kill, kidnap, maim and injure persons outside the United States.

"Enlist yourselves. Come to see us in Asmara, The Capital of Eritria, who said they did not support all Shabaab” Abdi said to the crowd. “Let us get to know each other. We will offer training. Then whoever wants to fight for two months, like the Eritreans used to do, can then go back to school.”

At the time, Abdi and other members of the Alliance for the Re-Liberation of Somalia were based in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. In his speech, Abdi also urged recent college grads who had computer expertise to enlist in what he called a “war of technology.”

Major Malik Nadal Hasan is the Fort Hood Gunman

The suspected gunman in the Fort Hood shooting has been identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan. He was killed and two other suspects have been apprehended, according to Army Spokesman Lt. General Robert W. Cone.

A defense official speaking on condition of anonymity to the AP says Hasan was a mental health professional — an Army psychologist or psychiatrist.
There are unconfirmed reports that Major Hasan was a convert to Islam and originally from Virginia.
He was reportedly scheduled to deploy to either Iraq or Afghanistan and was unhappy about it.

DALLAS -- Federal agents arrested a Jordanian Thursday suspected of trying to blow up the 60-story Fountain Place building in downtown Dallas.

Undercover agents with the FBI tricked Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, 19, into thinking that he was detonating a bomb placed in an SUV parked outside the 60-story skyscraper at 1445 Ross Ave., before they arrested him, according to court documents. The explosive device was inert and inactive, the Justice Department said in a news release.

"The identification and apprehension of this defendant, who was acting alone, is a sobering reminder that there are people among us who want to do us grave harm,” U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks said in the news release announcing the arrest.

Undercover agents posing as members of an al Qaeda sleeper cell met with Smadi several times while the terrorist suspect hatched his plot to commit jihad, or holy war, against the "Romans (Christians) and Jews," an arrest warrant affidavit says.

The affidavit says Smadi made clear his intention to serve as a soldier for Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda, and to conduct violent jihad. But it says he was interested in "self-jihad" because it is "the best type of jihad."

The investigation by the FBI and members of the North Texas Joint Terrorism Task Force determined that Smadi was not associated with other terrorist organizations.

The FBI said Smadi was in the United States illegally and lived and worked in Italy, Texas, about 45 minutes south of Dallas.

Federal agents said they discovered Smadi within a group of online terrorists, and added that he stood out because of his willingness to conduct terrorist attacks inside the United States.
"This is not related to any other investigation," said Mark White, an FBI spokesman. "This is a standalone terrorist. A lone individual who did whatever it is that he did."

There is an ongoing investigation in New York and Colorado into a possible terrorist strike.
Smadi told undercover officials that he wanted to blow up a credit card center in the United States.

"Millions of people will incur losses," the arrest warrant affidavit quotes Smadi saying. "Unemployment, poverty, hunger, and a strike to the head of the government. Don't forget the psychological impacts on the loss of this beautiful building."

Smadi is expected to make his first court appearance at 11 a.m. Friday in U.S. District Court in Dallas before U.S. Magistrate Judge Irma C. Ramirez.

Riots Continue In Muslim Area of China

URUMQI, China — China raised the death toll from riots in its Xinjiang region to 184, state media said Saturday, giving an ethnic breakdown of the dead for the first time after communal violence broke out in this far western city.

The official Xinhua News Agency said 137 of the victims belonged to the dominant Han ethnic group. The rest included 45 men and one woman who were Uighurs, and one man of the Hui Muslim ethnic group, the report said, citing the information office of the regional government.
The previous death toll was 156. Xinhua gave no details on the newly reported deaths, including whether any were from Tuesday, when Han men seeking revenge for the original Uighur-led protest that turned violent marched through the streets with clubs and cleavers, trying to push past police guarding minority neighborhoods.

Nearly a week after the rioting began, paramilitary police carrying automatic weapons and riot shields blocked some roads leading to the largely Muslim Uighur district of the city Saturday, and groups of 30 marched along the road chanting slogans encouraging ethnic unity.

Some shops were still closed, and a police van blared public announcements in the Uighur language urging residents to oppose activist Rebiya Kadeer, a 62-year-old Uighur businesswoman who lives in exile in the U.S., whom China says instigated the riots. She has denied it.

Protests continued Friday after a petite Muslim woman began complaining that the public washrooms were closed at a crowded mosque — the most important day of the week for Islamic worship. Muslims perform required ablutions, or washing, before prayer.
When a group gathered around her on the sidewalk, Madina Ahtam then railed against communist rule in Xinjiang.

The 26-year-old businesswoman eventually led the crowd of mostly men in a fist-pumping street march that was quickly blocked by riot police, some with automatic rifles pointed at the protesters.

Women have been on the front line in Urumqi partly because more than 1,400 men in the Muslim Uighur minority have been rounded up by police since ethnic rioting broke out July 5. As the communist government launches a sweeping security crackdown, the women have faced down troops, led protests and risked arrest by speaking out against police tactics they believe are excessive.

The violence came as the Uighurs were protesting the June 25 deaths of Uighur factory workers in a brawl in southern China. The crowd then scattered throughout Urumqi, attacking Han Chinese, burning cars and smashing windows.

Many Uighurs who are still free live in fear of being arrested for any act of dissent.
Thousands of Chinese troops have flooded into Urumqi to separate the feuding ethnic groups, and a senior Communist Party official vowed to execute those guilty of murder in the rioting.

A report in the Urumqi Evening News on Friday said police had caught 190 suspects in four raids the day before.

In many Uighur neighborhoods during the crisis in Urumqi, the women did much of the talking with reporters as the men gathered in small groups on street corners and in back alleys, speaking quietly among themselves.

"I can't speak freely. The police could come any minute and haul me away," said a Uighur man who would only identify himself as Alim.

But on Friday, some men challenged officials when they showed up for prayers at Urumqi's popular White Mosque and found the gate closed. Officials had earlier said the mosque would be closed for public safety reasons as security forces tried to pacify the capital.

The mosque was eventually opened when the crowd swelled and there was a threat of unrest, police said.

Most Muslim Uighurs practice a moderate form of Sunni Islam or follow the mystical Sufism tradition.

The women often work and lead an active social life outside the home. Many wear brightly colored head scarves but the custom is not strongly enforced. Young Uighur women often wear jeans, formfitting tops and dresses.

As the faithful streamed into the White Mosque, Ahtam arrived holding a lilac umbrella and told foreign reporters in broken English, "Toilet no open. No water."

She led reporters to an area where the faithful are supposed to cleanse themselves before prayers and said with tears running down her cheeks, "Washing room not open. Everybody no wash."

After the prayers, she continued speaking on the sidewalk and attracted about 40 people who applauded when she criticized the government.

"Every Uighur people are afraid. Do you understand? We are afraid. Chinese people are very happy. Why?" said Ahtam.

The government believes the Uighurs should be grateful for Xinjiang's rapid economic development, which has brought new schools, highways, airports, railways, natural gas fields and oil wells in the sprawling, rugged Central Asian region, three times the size of Texas.

But many of the Turkic-speaking Uighurs, with a population of 9 million in Xinjiang, accuse the dominant Han ethnic group of discriminating against them and saving all the best jobs for themselves. Many also say the Communist Party is repressive and tries to snuff out their Islamic faith, language and culture.

As Ahtam's crowd became more agitated, about 20 riot police with clubs marched toward the group. The Uighurs pumped their fists in the air and walked down the street with Ahtam leading the pack.

About 200 more riot police arrived and cut off the group, with some of the security forces kneeling down and pointing their automatic rifles at the marchers. Foreign reporters were led to a side alley, out of view of the protesters, who were forced to squat on the sidewalk along a row of shuttered shops.

Hours later, calls to Ahtam's cell phone went unanswered and it was unknown what happened to her.

A few days ago, Jennifer Rubin, writing at Pajamas Media, wondered: “Why is the Justice Department Cozying Up to Islamic Radicals?”

Rubin obtained a copy of an email seeking volunteers at the DOJ to represent the department in its booth at the Islamic Society of North America’s convention. ISNA is no moderate Islamic fellowship, Rubin noted. Because of the excellent work done by federal prosecutors and organizations such as Steve Emerson’s Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), we know that ISNA has longstanding ties to radical groups around the world.

For example, ISNA was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial. That trial resulted in the conviction of five former HLF officials who, among other illicit activities, were soliciting funds on behalf of Hamas, a radical wing of the Muslim Brotherhood that seeks the destruction of Israel.

As the Emerson’s IPT has noted:

Federal prosecutors identified ISNA as a “member organization” of the “U.S. Muslim Brotherhood” on its list of Unindicted Co-conspirators and/or Joint Venturers.
That is, federal prosecutors believe that the ISNA is a Trojan horse, operating on U.S. soil to collect funds for international extremism and terrorism, as well as to influence American public opinion.

Despite ISNA’s disturbing ties, Rubin noted, the DOJ has repeatedly made “outreach efforts” to the organization. This occurred during the Bush years and has continued on in the Obama administration. An ISNA employee was even invited to speak at Obama’s inaugural prayer service.

If ISNA’s ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood won’t dissuade the DOJ from befriending the organization, perhaps the group’s ties to an al Qaeda charity will.
In a must-read exposé on the financial ties between Saudi Arabia, including members of the royal family, and al Qaeda, the New York Times linked to several supporting documents today. One of these documents is a dossier prepared by German criminal investigators in 2003. The Germans investigated the financial dealings of an organization called the Third World Relief Agency (TWRA), which moved hundreds of millions of dollars around in its sponsorship of terrorism.

TWRA was run by senior Bosnian government officials, and sponsored the relocation of hundreds, if not thousands, of jihadists to Bosnia to fight in the 1990s. While carrying out some legitimate humanitarian functions as a cover, TWRA was really a front for global terrorist operations.

And the ISNA was likely one of its donors.
The German criminal investigators’ entry on ISNA reads (see this page on the Times’s web site):

Islamic Society of North America

Four credit entries by check were identified, whose sender where (sic) all indicated as “Dyewood Center I.S.N.A.” In total an amount of USD 102,197.85 was credited. This organization is likely to be the “Islamic Society of North America”, headquartered at Plainfield, Indiana, USA.
German criminal investigators concluded that ISNA’s six-figure donation to TWRA was split into four transfers between July and October of 1992.

What was TWRA doing at the time? It was funding the terror network that executed the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and orchestrated a follow-on attack against landmarks in the New York metro area.

As Evan Kohlmann explains in his book, Al-Qaida’s Jihad in Europe:

During the 1995 trial of conspirators charged with involvement in a terrorist plot to attack landmarks in New York, Clement Rodney Hampton-el, an American Muslim who trained in the Afghan camps run by Al-Qaida, confirmed that he had been smuggling money into the United States obtained from the Third World Relief Agency for the purpose of financing the military training in New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania of Arab-Afghan mujahideen destined for Bosnia. Several graduates of these makeshift camps helped organize and carry out the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.

That is just the tip of the iceberg.

TWRA had ties to al Qaeda members and supporters the world over.
Kohlmann notes that Osama bin Laden was suspected of donating “large sums of money” to TWRA to fund the jihad in Bosnia.
Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, whose jihadists executed the World Trade Center bombing and organized the follow-on landmarks plot, was caught on tape talking to TWRA officials.
TWRA “volunteered to spread” Rahman’s message and sell the Blind Sheikh’s “militant videotapes and sermons in mosques throughout Europe,” Kohlmann reported.

There’s more, of course. But it would take pages to summarize TWRA’s international jihadist activities, from transiting terrorists around the globe to arranging for massive arms shipments.

In addition to Kohlmann’s book, TWRA’s violent legacy, including ties to al Qaeda, are spelled out in elaborate detail by John Schindler in his book, Unholy Terror. Schindler was formerly one of the NSA’s top analysts on the Balkans. He includes pages of details on TWRA’s terrorist activities.

This is the organization that ISNA financially supported. In turn, the DOJ believes it should work with ISNA for some unknown reason.

As Rubin asks: “what is the Justice Department doing soliciting employees through the Justice Department email system to attend a convention at which ISNA can propagate its views?”

al-Amriki Comments in Audio from Somalia about Obama

Despite the fact that you have been ... forced [by Muslim fighters] to at least pretend to extend your hand in peace to the Muslims, we cannot and shall not extend our hands,” said the man in the audiotape, identified by the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) as Abu Mansour al-Amriki. “Rather, we shall extend to you our swords, until you leave our lands.”

An American who left the United States to join an Al Qaeda-linked group in Somalia has released a new audiotape, his second high-profile message in recent months.

The 20-minute audiotape, titled “The Beginning of the End,” is a response to President Barack Obama’s much-publicized speech in Cairo on June 4 aimed at the Muslim world.

The Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute identified the man speaking in the audiotape as Abu Mansour al-Amriki, also known simply as “The American.” In April, when al-Amriki appeared in a recruitment video for al-Shabaab, a law enforcement official told Fox News that he is originally from the United States but has been in Somalia "for some time." The official described al-Amriki as in his late 20s or early 30s.

The audiotape begins with praise of Usama bin Laden, according to the Washington-based Middle east Media Research Institute, which is currently translating and transcribing the audiotape. Among other things, the audiotape also mocks President Obama for his pronunciation of the word “hijab” during the June 4 speech.

President Obama had meant to say: “Freedom in America is indivisible from the freedom to practice one's religion. … That's why the United States government has gone to court to protect the right of women and girls to wear the hijab and to punish those who would deny it.”
But President Obama said “hajib” instead of “hijab.” Still, the crowd gathered in Cairo erupted into applause after the line.

Also during the speech in Cairo, President Obama said he was seeking “a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world.” But he also warned that Al Qaeda has “affiliates in many countries and are trying to expand their reach.”

Somalia is one of those countries. An Al Qaeda-linked group known as al-Shabaab has been warring with the moderate Somali government since 2006, and the fighting has turned Somalia into a state of anarchy. U.S. officials say that if al-Shabaab prevails, Somalia could turn into a haven for Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

In the past year, scores – if not hundreds – of Muslims from several Western countries have left their homes to train and fight with al-Shabaab in Somalia. In fact, the Federal Bureau of investigation has been looking into how dozens of Somali-American men from the Minneapolis were recruited to join al-Shabaab.

The new audiotape is an attempt to recruit even more foreign fighters.

Mohammed Abdullah Warsame, Al Qaeda Supporter in Minneapolis Pleased Guilty

A Minneapolis resident accused of aiding and communicating with Al Qaeda has pleaded guilty to supporting the terrorist group.

Mohammed Abdullah Warsame, 35, a naturalized Canadian citizen from Somalia, pleaded guilty in a Minnesota federal court to conspiring to provide material support to Al Qaeda on May 20, 2009.

According to the plea agreement, Warsame provided Al Qaeda with personnel, training and material support from 2000 to 2003.

Warsame attended an Al Qaeda training camp outside Kabul, Afghanistan in 2000 before traveling to Al Qaeda's Al Faruq camp, where he attended lectures given by Osama bin Laden.
Warsame engaged in weapons, tactics and martial arts training at the terrorist camps, which also offered specialized courses in explosives and poisons, according to court documents.
Upon finishing his training at the camps, Warsame worked as a guard at an Al Qaeda guesthouse and clinic affiliated with Al Faruq.
Warsame traveled to Canada in 2001 and established e-mail communication with Al Qaeda associates he met in Afghanistan. He also sent money to a commander of one of the terrorist training camps he attended.
Warsame moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in April 2002 after obtaining an immigrant visa, according to an FBI affidavit.

Since their marriage in 1995, Warsame's wife has lived in Minneapolis, from where approximately 20 young Somali-American men have traveled to Somalia to join a U.S. designated terrorist group.

Warsame, a former student at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College, continued to communicate with several Al Qaeda associates after relocating to Minneapolis. He was arrested in December 2003 under a material witness warrant.

Warsame was first charged in January 2004 with one count of conspiring to provide support to Al Qaeda. A superseding indictment unsealed in June 2005 added another count of providing material support to Al Qaeda and three counts of making false statements to the FBI about his travels to Pakistan and Afghanistan and his frequent contact with and financial support of Al Qaeda associates.

In exchange for his guilty plea, the U.S. government agreed to dismiss the remaining charges.
Warsame faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and will be deported to Canada upon completion of his sentence.

MB Member Mohammed Qutb, brother of Sayd, ran to KSA to teach after the arrest and execution of Sayd, and did at Abdul Aziz U, School of Islamic studies teaching both Abdullah Azzam, and OBL.
A similar article in the Financial Times reported financial links between 74-year-old Swiss Muslim convert, businessman and neo-Nazi Ahmed Huber, and MB members, notably Youssef Nada, Ali Ghaleb Himmat and who founded the Al Taqwa Bank.
According to the U.S. government, Al Taqwa "has long acted as financial advisers to al-Qaeda." Huber himself is noted in Europe for his links with alleged neo-Nazi and other far right elements.
He is reported to have "confirmed" having "had contact with associates of Osama bin Laden at an Islamic conference in Beirut," whom he called `very discreet, well-educated, very intelligent people.'
Abdul Rahman al-Amoudi, an "expert in the art of deception" was an influential lobbyist and founder and head of the Brotherhood-linked American Muslim Council before being convicted and sentenced to 23 years in prison for conspiracy to murder Saudi Prince Abdullah at the behest of Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi.
In 1997 Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mustafa Mashhur told journalist Khalid Daoud that he thought Egypt's Coptic Christians should pay the long-abandoned jizya poll tax, levied on non-Muslims (In exchange for protection from the state, due to the fact that non-Muslims are exempt from military service, while it is compulsory for Muslims.).
He went on to say that while `we do not mind having Christians members in the People's Assembly... the top officials, especially in the army, should be Muslims since we are a Muslim country... This is necessary, Mashhur explained because `when a Christian country attacks the Muslim country and the army has Christian elements, they can facilitate our defeat by the enemy.`"

CAIR Discouraging Parents of Minnesota Mujahadeen from Talking

Family, relatives and friends protested the Minneapolis Chapter of CAIR for thwarting an FBI investigation into the murder last week of Burhan Hassan by Al Shabaab terrorists in Mogadishu, who had recruited him.

We had posted on the unfortunate killing of 18 year old Hassan, who had attended Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, as did suicide bomber Shirwa Ahmed who took the lives of 29 others in Somalia last year.

The FBI wants to find out who recruited and transported Ahmed and 20 other missing Minneapolis youths to Somalia to join the Taliban-like Al Shabaab militia.
Al Shabaab was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the State Department in 2008.

The Star Tribune report notes:

About 50 people protested Thursday outside the Brian Coyle Community Center in Minneapolis, where the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Minnesota chapter held an ice cream social.
Abdirizak Bihi is an uncle of 18-year-old Burhan Hassan, who relatives say was killed in Somalia last week.

Bihi and others say CAIR is discouraging Somalis from coming forward.

“We don’t want anyone to come into our community and tell us to shut up,” Bihi said. “Law enforcement will not be able to do anything without information from the community.”

About 50 people attended the rally, waving signs and hollering, “CAIR out! Doublespeak out!”
CAIR Minnesota has encouraged anyone interviewed by the FBI to have a lawyer present.

A CAIR spokeswoman says the effort isn’t to discourage cooperation, but rather to ensure that civil rights are protected.

The FBI investigation into the missing men is ongoing. Authorities believe they went to Somalia to fight for terror groups.

The uncle of slain Burhan Hassan, Osman Ahmed had this to say: ….some in the family believe CAIR has aligned itself too closely with mosques where some believe the missing boys may have been influenced to leave.

“They are supporting the groups we suspect of recruiting our kids,” Ahmed said. “We refuse to be silent.”

Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammed Trained in Yemen

According to my esteemed colleague Steven Emerson, (and as I noted yesterday), Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammed has been under investigation in an effort to understand his “possible contacts with extremists overseas.”

Emerson believes that Muhammed probably attended “the (Al-Da’awah Center) madrassa in Dammaj, a tribal area of Yemen, run by a Salafi cleric named Yahya Hajuri.”

Unbelievably, Hajuri is the designated heir to one Muqbil ibn Hadi, who once launched an attack on Mecca and a war against Christians in Indonesia.

Yemen: What do I recall about Yemen? Osama bin Laden’s father is from Yemen, from a place called Hadramut which, I am told, means “Death has come.”More important, according to Emerson, Abdulhakim M. Muhammed “was urged by members of the local Muslim community, (in the United States), to travel to Yemen, for more education. The (country) is considered a hotbed for terrorists, and Muhammad may have been exposed to more radical ideas there.” ...

Minniapolis Somalis Fighiting as Terrorists Just Captured

This Article claims that Salafi American Residents of Somalian origin were used for six suicide bombings in Hargesia, Somalia in October, 2008, and that 11 more were just arrested in Somaliland after having been trained by the Shabaab for firing anti-aircraft missils.

Further, they calim that An American Salfi group has weekly conference calls with al Shabaab in Somalia. al Shabbab has been designed by the US as terrorist group.

It is my best guess that the group of which they speak is in the Minniapolis - St Paul, area. at least 40 Somali youths have disappeared in the last few months, according to a Minniapolis Newspaper report, after interviewing Police Street Gang unit officers.

Dozens of young Somali men in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area have disappeared in recent months, causing community members and U.S. intelligence officials to fear that they are joining jihadist groups in Somalia.

Officials are especially concerned that some of the men may be destined to return to the U.S. after they have received terrorist training.

The missing young men have been the focus of some attention since late October, when Shirwa Ahmed, a naturalized U.S. citizen, died in a suicide bombing in northern Somalia. Ahmed was a 1999 graduate of Minneapolis’s Roosevelt High School.
The Twin Cities media have reported that a number of other young Somali men — estimates range from six to 40 — have disappeared from the area.
Multiple sources within the local Somali community and U.S. government fear that these men may have returned to Somalia to train, or to participate in jihad against the country’s secular transitional federal government (TFG).
The TFG has lost ground to Islamist insurgents since early 2007; its primary protection comes from Ethiopian forces that intervened in Somalia in late 2006.
“I’ve come across 10 to 15 mothers crying because their sons are missing,” said Omar Jamal, executive director of the Minneapolis-based Somali Justice Advocacy Center.

A senior U.S. military intelligence analyst said the number may be even higher, since not all of the families whose sons have gone abroad will report it.

Jamal said the Somali community has seen young men disappear in a number of countries across the world, including Canada, the Netherlands and Australia. Multiple sources within the Somali community have corroborated this account.
Dahir Jibreel, who previously served as the TFG’s permanent secretary in charge of international cooperation, said, “Other young Somalis went missing in Europe, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.”
Jibreel said many of the disappearances occurred simultaneously.
The Somali men who have vanished in Minneapolis are diverse in their education level and job prospects.
Some were reportedly linked to Somali gangs, while others have been described as intelligent and studious. Some attended college and appeared to have good job prospects.
There is little evidence that these men were radicalized when they entered the U.S.
Abdiweli Ali, an associate professor of economics at Niagara University and a former adviser to the TFG, said young Somalis are being targeted for indoctrination.
“There’s a huge underclass,” he said, “and the kids get involved in gangs and drugs. So every time a kid goes to hang out in the mosque, the parents see that as good. They encourage their kids to go to after-school programs with religion, to youth groups at the mosque.”

The youths are susceptible to “brainwashing,” Ali said. “They are very young, susceptible to any kind of indoctrination. All you need is one rogue imam who tells them the wrong things, and they are susceptible to that.”

A senior American intelligence source confirms that Somalis have vanished in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia, adding that some people from the Caribbean also appear to have left for Somalia. And not all of the people bound for training or jihad in Somalia have a Somali background, the source said.

A man who appears to be Caucasian and is aligned with the Somalia-based terrorist group Shabaab can be seen in a recent jihadist video, and another gave an interview with al-Jazeera (though he wore a facemask when doing so).
The source said that at least three African-Americans from the Minneapolis area also are suspected of traveling to Somalia to join jihadist groups.

While Somalis in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area have been puzzled by the simultaneous disappearances in multiple countries, the intelligence source says it can be explained by the reopening of certain training facilities in Somalia, such as those in Ras Kamboni. “School is open for business, so the demand has gone up,” he said.

The intelligence source said there is a transportation network in place to move fighters to Somalia,

including Ruben Luis Shumpert (a Seattle-area barber who was killed this year while fighting for the Shabaab)
Daniel Joseph Maldonado (a U.S. citizen who was arrested in 2007 for undergoing terrorist training).
The network apparently has provided forged passports on some occasions, he said.
It is not clear is who is funding the expensive cost of traveling to Somalia.

Virtually all of the Somalis who have disappeared in Minneapolis are from impoverished backgrounds.

The size of the recruiting network in the U.S. isn’t known, and estimates vary widely. But a major concern is what will happen when these young men return to the U.S. after having undergone terrorist training or participated in combat.

Guilty on all Counts -The Holy Land Foundation Retrial

DALLAS (AP) — A Muslim charity and five of its former leaders were convicted Monday of funneling millions of dollars to the Palestinian militant group Hamas, finally handing the government a signature victory in its fight against terrorism funding.

U.S. District Judge Jorge A. Solis announced the guilty verdicts on all 108 counts on the eighth day of deliberations in the retrial of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, once the nation's largest Muslim charity. It was the biggest terrorism financing case since the attacks of Sept. 11.

The convictions follow the collapse of Holy Land's first trial last year and defeats in other cases the government tried to build.
President George W. Bush had personally announced the freezing of Holy Land's assets in 2001, calling the action "another step in the war on terrorism."
After Monday's verdict, family members showed little visible reaction until the jury left. Several women sobbed loudly.

"My dad's not a criminal!" one nearly inconsolable woman said loudly. Court personnel told the family to calm her down, and as family members rushed her out of the courtroom, she said, "They treated him like an animal."

Ghassan Elashi, Holy Land's former chairman, and Shukri Abu-Baker, the chief executive, were convicted of a combined 69 counts, including supporting a specially designated terrorist, money laundering and tax fraud.

Mufid Abdulqader and Abdulrahman Odeh were convicted of three counts of conspiracy, and Mohammed El-Mezain was convicted of one count of conspiracy to support a terrorist organization. Holy Land itself was convicted of all 32 counts.
A sentencing date hasn't been scheduled.

Holy Land was accused of giving more than $12 million to support Hamas. The seven-week retrial ran about as long as the original, which ended in October 2007 when a judge declared a mistrial on most charges.
Holy Land wasn't accused of violence. Rather, the government said the Richardson, Texas-based charity financed schools, hospitals and social welfare programs controlled by Hamas in areas ravaged by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The U.S. designated Hamas a terrorist organization in 1995 and again in 1997, making contributions to the group illegal. Government officials raided Holy Land's headquarters in December 2001 and shut it down.
Prosecutors labeled Holy Land's benefactors — called zakat committees — as terrorist recruiting pools. The charities, the government argued, spread Hamas' violent ideology and generated loyalty and support among Palestinians.

It was a "womb to the tomb" cycle, prosecutor Barry Jonas told jurors during closing arguments last week.

Holy Land supporters told a different story.

They accused the government of politicizing the case as part of its war on terrorism, while attorneys for the foundation said Holy Land's mission was philanthropy and providing much-needed aid to the Middle East.
They reminded jurors that none of the zakat committees are designated by the U.S. as terrorist fronts, and that Holy Land also donated to causes elsewhere, including helping victims of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.

"No one here is engaging in acts of terrorism," Theresa Duncan, attorney for former Holy Land chief executive Shukri Abu Baker, said during closing arguments.

A chaotic courtroom scene ended last year's original trial, which lasted nearly two months and kept jurors deliberating for 19 days. But they deadlocked on many counts, and when a judge polled the panel about other verdicts, some disavowed their vote.

The confusing finish led U.S. District Judge A. Joe Fish to declare a mistrial, and leaders of the defunct charity rushed outside to celebrate.

Observers last year panned the government for presenting a bloated case too complicated for jurors to follow.
Prosecutors responded this year by dropping nearly 60 charges in the trial and tightening their narrative to jurors, even offering a kind of road map to help the panel follow the money.
But nearly 15 boxes of evidence wheeled into court on a flatbed still impressed the size of the case, as did the more than one hour that Solis needed to read aloud the indictment.

We call on you to rescind the Proclamation you signed declaring November 15, 2008 "COUNCIL ON AMERICAN-ISLAMIC RELATIONS (CAIR) DAY."

By signing the document, you ignored a number of troubling facts regarding CAIR. * CAIR was founded in 1994 by operatives from the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), which at the time was the American propaganda wing of Hamas, producing terror training videos for Hamas and publishing the Hamas charter in different languages.
CAIR was created as being a part of the American Palestine Committee, which at the time was led by the global head of Hamas, Mousa Abu Marzook.
CAIR has had a number of representatives involved in terrorism, who were convicted and/or deported for various criminal activities.
CAIR is currently named by the U.S. Justice Department as a co-conspirator for a federal trial dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas.
CAIR-Florida representative Jawhar Sadallah Badran was recently caught on video stating his support for Hamas. CAIR's National Executive Director once did the same.
Keep in mind, Hamas is on the U.S. State Department list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). And while it is not illegal to verbalize one’s support for Hamas, it is immoral and offensive to do so, and it is as well immoral to legitimize any individual or group who does so.
We understand that you have signed this Proclamation for "CAIR Day" every year for at least the past four years.
We ask that you take the opportunity to end this trend immediately by withdrawing this most recent Proclamation.
To ignore this would be to ignore the worst of hatred and extremism. We urge you to rescind the Proclamation immediately. Sincerely,

Islamists and their backers have a shallow and uncivilized“ideology” which cannot stand up to any rational thinking. It does not offer any alternative to any social, political, or economic order which mankind has thus far has known.

It exclusively incites to hatred, violence, and discrimination against women and followers of other faiths. It is even an over statement to say it is bankrupt.

Bankruptcy usually applies to someone who has possessed something and then lost it. Islamism, including numerous passages in Shari’a and the Koran, is a destructive mindset. It is a socio-political virus.

However, without oil and suicide bombing Islamists would be roaming the Arabian Peninsula, the birth place of Islamism, and perish from hunger. Petrodollars and Wahabism, a wild irrational version of Islam, are nurturing Islamism and Muslim terror. Koran schools across the globe stuff young brains with hatred against the rest of the world. Students at these schools are taught that they are the “real Muslims”.

Ridding the world of the “infidels” is their primary religious obligation. In return for blowing up themselves in crowded places they are promised paradise and an eternal prosperous life among 72 young virgin pretty women of their choice.

Now, when you scrutinize Islamism on the ground, you find out that its backers, in particular in the Arab world, focus on the following:

For Islamists, women are the source of all evil. They (men) primarily associate women with sex and only sex. Therefore, women must cover every part of their body when they are outside their homes. Women are seductive, Islamists allege. If they expose any part of their body, men would be distracted and their lust is tirred, which is eventually “sinful”.

An Islamist told me that when he is in Europe he sees so much flesh and hence his lust dwindles. At home in Saudi Arabia, he has much more sexual lust. He figures out all kinds of beauty under women’s clothes in the street. He rushes home to pour his lust in his wife. And that is more exciting.

- According to Islamists, women must be ready for intercourse at any time the husband wishes so.

Your wives are a tilth for you, so go into your tilth when you like, and do good beforehand for yourselves, and be careful (of your duty) to Allah, and know that you will meet Him, and give good news to the believers.” (Sura 2, verse 223).

During menstruation, however, men should keep away from women; they are filthy. The Koran says:

It (menstruation) is a discomfort; therefore keep aloof from the women during the menstrual discharge and do not go near them until they have become clean; then when they have cleansed themselves, go in to them as Allah has commanded you; surely Allah loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify themselves.” (Sura 2, verse 222).

Women, according to Islamists and the Koran, are, in general, unclean creature. After a Muslim has washed and prepared himself for prayer, he should not touch a woman. She tarnishes his cleanliness. Therefore, “pious” Muslims never shake hands with women.

O you who believe! do not go near prayer until you have washed yourselves; and if you have touched women, and you cannot find water, betake yourselves to pure earth, then wipe your faces andyour hands; surely Allah is Pardoning, Forgiving.” (Sura 4, verse 43).

For Islamists, even the woman’s voice is “’aura” (a sexual organ). A woman on Saudi radio and TV, for instance, is not allowed to be interviewed by a man. Also a woman should never tell her name in public. Therefore, she is, for example, “um Muhammad”, (the mother of Muhammad), or “um Ali”.

In a public place an Islamist walks a couple of feet ahead of his wife or close female relatives, covered from head to toe. He wants to signal to passers-by, these are my women, do not look at them. They are mine. Thus women are not only sex objects, they are also a piece of property.
Islamists demand that a woman’s face should never be photographed. Women of Islamists in Kuwait are allowed to have their hotos on the driver’s license with a dark black face cover. The majority of them are usually reckless drivers and no police dare stop them to take them to task.
Islamists in several Arab and Muslim countries have succeeded in forcing sex-segregation at schools and universities. That is the case in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Iran, and Pakistan. Bosnia and Kosovo are also introducing this system.

Women as witnesses, according to Islamists, are unreliable. Therefore, the testimony of two female witnesses are required to equal that of one male witness in Shari’a courts (Sura 2, verse 282). Further, Women are entitled to inherit only half a portion of that of a man (Sura 4, verse 176). For many men at the Arab Gulf, the brain of a woman is “too small”; it is half the size of that of a man.

Also, Islamists encourage forcing minor girls to marry. The youngest was 8 years old whose father forced her to marry a 57-year-man in Sana’a, the Yemen Times reports (October 10, 2008). As some human rights organizations protested, a local judge defended the case by analogy; the Prophet Muhammad married Aisha, one of his wives, as she was 9 years old.
Men and women, in most Arab oil rich countries, are not allowed to hug or kiss each other in public, at the airport, for instance, when they welcome relatives and friends back from a journey or say farewell to them. For weeks now, Islamists in Kuwait have been condemning a 14-year-old girl who kissed a singer in a family wedding party in a hotel in Kuwait city. Some of them called the girl a “whore” and demanded punishing her and her parents.

Another triviality of Islamists is the ad nausea repetition of “peace and prayers be upon him” every time the name of the Prophet Muhammad is mentioned. It is a must. Otherwise, you are not “pious” enough”.

A real Muslim, for Islamists, is the one who practices Islam to the letter. Muslims are not allowed to use their left hand when they eat or drink. It is the one which one uses to wash their ***.

According to Islamists, a Muslim should never donate an organ, heart or kidneys for example, to a non-Muslim. Ali Gumaa, the grand mufti of Egypt and the Islamist fanatic, Yousef Al Qaradhawi, approved of that on Al Jazeera TV (February 16, 2008).

Freedom of speech is also forbidden, according to Islamists. You are not allowed to question anything in the Koran, Hadeeth, or Shari’a. These scripts are sacred.

Books that criticize certain Islamic practices are also forbidden. The “evolution theory” is also banned from all schools in the earlier mentioned countries. Even the “One Thousand and one Nights” is forbidden in many Arab countries. Some Islamists preach, the Koran is the only book that is worth of reading. It has got everything you need to know.

This is reminiscent of what the second Caliph, Omar Ibn Al Khattab did with the Library of Alexandria in the 7th century, the greatest and most precious at the time. Before burning the Library down, he said, “If it contains books which preach what Islam advocates, then it is superfluous. If it doesn’t, then it should be destroyed.” And it was.

Music, for Islamists, is also haram (forbidden). It is a Western fad. It is noise. A good Muslim listens only to recorded recitations of the Koran.

Political “parties” is “hizb” (fragmentation) and as such are forbidden in the Arab Gulf countries. In Kuwait there is a parliament, but parties are forbidden. Saudi Arabia rejects democracy all together. It is un-Islamic. Shura (consultation) is the Islamic alternative. This is one of the reasons why the Al Saud are vehemently sticking to Shari’a. It justifies their absolute despotic rule.

Besides, Islamists reject all secular constitutions and secular laws. They advocate that the Shari’a is the best constitution on earth. It is the law of Allah.

Islamists also reject religious pluralism. Any other faith than Islam is fake. The Saudis and the Turks, both led by Islamists, enjoy religious pluralism in the West. But in their own countries, no churches, synagogues, or temples are allowed to be built.

In addition, until now, no-Muslims are not allowed to enter Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. They are “holy places” and only Muslims are allowed to visit them.

Islam is the only religion in the world that declares Muslims who convert to other faiths apostates and sentences them to death. Islamists enforce this with death fatwas. This is a gross violation of a basic human right which the UN Charter prescribes and all Arab and Muslim countries ratified.

For Islamists, people who satirize Islamic symbols are declared satanic/heretic and deserve the death penalty. The Muhammad-Cartoons are a case in point.

Every time a hurricane hits the USA, the Islamists rejoice. They propagate, that is the curse of Allah on the “infidels”. As the tsunami hit South East Asia, Nabeel Al Awadhi claimed in an article for the Kuwaiti Al Watan daily (April 2006), “The tsunami hit more infidels than Muslims.” In’ the same paper, Waleed Al Tabtaba’i concluded (October 5, 2008) that the recent international financial crisis is Allah’ chastisement for the people who deal with riba (usury).” Rajab Al Banna, a columnist with the Egyptian daily, Al Ahram, alleges (May 26, 2007), “Western charity organizations are not interested in humanitarian aid. Their ultimate aim is proselytizing Muslims and help them convert to Christianity.”

As you can see, the Islamists find always a “rational” explanation to events in the world.
The Islamist dogma is void and anti-human. But thanks to petrodollars, lack of genuine democracy and freedom of speech in the Arab and Muslim world – which for decades has been ignored by the West for geopolitical and economic interests – and thanks to relativists in their cozy offices, Islamism is thriving and Islamists are emboldened.

School textbooks in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Indonesia, for example, are still teaching hatred and violence against people of other faiths. According to the latest UN Education Report (2007), these books are funded by Saudi Arabia. And no body dare touch on that. Governments and individuals are intimidated. It is allegedly an internal matter, and justified as freedom of belief. This is perverse. Violating basic human rights has nothing to do with freedom of belief.
The USA and the European Union know all that, yet they have not undertaken concrete measure to ban these toxic textbooks. There must the war on terror begin. Islamists are illiterate in terms of common sense and human civilized coexistence. They are outlaws who need to be re-educated and integrated in our civilized world.

It is very important to distinguish between ordinary Muslims and Islamists. The majority of Muslims around the globe are peaceful people, more or less religious like all followers of other faiths whether they are Christians, Jews, Hindus, or Buddhists. Every human being must have the right to believe in whatever they deem appropriate, including Islamists. But nobody has the right to IMPOSE his beliefs on other, oppress them, discriminate against them, and terrorize them, as Islamists are doing every day.

The so-called Mutawa’s, religious police in Saudi Arabia, are empowered to force all women to cover their bodies from head to toe, even 5-year-old girls. Pedestrians during prayer times are forced to go the mosque and pray, sometimes even non-Muslims are forced to do so. Women who travel by taxi alone are accused of adultery. Both the woman and the taxi driver are imprisoned and tortured. In Gaza, Basra/Iraq, south Lebanon, and Iran no woman is allowed to walk in a public place without a hijab (headscarf). In most Egyptian towns, women without a headscarf are denigrated and treated as prostitutes.

More and more governments in the Middle East, for example, in Egypt, Syria, Kuwait, Pakistan, Morocco, Algeria, Yemen, and Iraq are allying themselves with Islamists in a bid to appease the latter. Demonizing the West would partially appease the Islamists and essentially debilitate the demand for democracy in these countries.

The problem is not Islam; it has existed for 1400 years and will still, realistically speaking, exist. The problem in the 21st century is the Islamists. They have hijacked both Islam and moderate Muslims. The resources of these thugs must be dried out and this is the responsibility of all of us. We must not be intimidated by them under any circumstances. They are a socio-cultural virus that must be eradicated by all means.

Finally, a colleague told me, Islam is sick. And its disease is called Islamism. The world community must fight this devastating disease, this Black Death. It is disrupting peace and stability in the whole world. Abdul Hadi Palazzi, an Italian Islam expert said several times, “The Americans should have invaded Saudi Arabia, instead of Iraq. It IS the source of all evil.” I would add Egypt, Qatar, and the UAE.

The Islamist establishments in these countries and their media are fostering Islamism. All these regimes proclaim that they are friends of the West, but at the same time they fund and support Islamism. It is, however, clear that America and the West at large would not want to antagonize these regimes for well-known geopolitical and economic considerations.

Sioux Falls Islamic Center Expanding By Private Donation

Muslim community members broke ground Friday on a second building in the city that will allow more space for a growing Islamic community to hold religious and community events."This will be a resource to provide a familiar place to go for those who come here and are adjusting," said Asif Zabih, Islamic Center president.The two-story, 10,000 square-foot Islamic Center at 1600 W. Seventh St. will serve as a soup kitchen, Mosque, medical clinic, Saturday school, day care and community hall.

"We hope this center will build a bridge of understanding between the Muslim faith and others," said Qadir Aware, a member of the Muslim community.

The center also will handle weddings, funeral services and family counseling. All of the services are provided by volunteers and are free for anyone in the community, Zabih said.

It is being funded by four years of private donations and will cost $500,000, Zabih said.
The expected completion is within a year.
The current Islamic Center at 1909 E. 6th St. has become too small for its growing population in Sioux Falls, Zabih said.
Volunteers teach 80 children at the center's school, and Zabih. Many more are expected at the new one.
Members say the 1,200 square-foot building can barely accommodate worshippers during Friday prayer or Eids, which are Muslim holidays.

There are 2,000 people from the Islamic community living in the city, Zabih said. About 400 of them are active members of the Islamic Center.

In 2004, the population of Muslims in Sioux Falls was 1,100.

Fremont Muslims Vote Against Gay Marriage in California

American Muslims in Fremont backed Senator Barack Obama’s push for the Presidency, but not his advice to vote no on Prop 8.

Voters of the Muslim faith in Fremont said they were in favor of Proposition 8, the ballot measure that eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry, on the advice of their mosques and because of their traditional values.

Mosques such as the Islamic Center of Fremont urged their members to vote for Prop 8. “If there is something against the religion, then we’re going to vote in one way, particularly for Prop 8.
Muslims are supposed to vote Prop 8 yes,” said Mohammad S. Akhtar, who is originally from Pakistan and is a board member at the Islamic Center of Fremont, the second largest mosque in Fremont.

Sam Saleh, a store owner who is originally from Kabul, Afghanistan, said that the prayer leader at his mosque had told members to vote yes on Prop. 8 during the Friday sermon. Muslims are supposed to pray five times a day, but Friday prayers are usually the busiest at mosques, equivalent to Sunday service at church.

Asked why he thought same-sex marriages should be banned, Saleh said: “I have children. God created one man, one woman. I can’t go against God. That’s the way I think is right and everybody in the Muslim community voted yes.”

Tariq Masood, an insurance agent originally from Pakistan, said gay marriage “should be stopped” and that God condemned nations that condoned homosexual behavior. He also suggested that homosexuality was to blame for earthquakes and other natural disasters.
Before he went out to cast his ballot on election day, Masood asked a Muslim friend over the phone for last-minute advice on whether voting yes or no on Prop. 8 meant a vote to stop same-sex marriage and was reassured in his decision.

Mimi Najati, owner of a beauty salon in Centerville who is originally from Afghanistan, said her husband, like the Muslim community in general, was against gay marriage. But she said she would have voted against Prop. 8, if she had remembered to register on time. “I’m not supporting gay marriages but if somebody likes to marry they should be given the right to do so,” she said.

“We as human beings should be given freedom of choice, nobody should be against that. It’s not our business what somebody does. It’s not going to hurt anybody so why should we be against it?”

A 13-year-old rape victim in Somalia was stoned to death last week after being accused of adultery in breach of Islamic law, Amnesty International said, citing her father and other unidentified people.

Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow was killed by a group of 50 men in a stadium in the southern port of Kismayo on Oct. 27 in front of 1,000 spectators, the London-based human rights group said in an e-mailed statement on Oct. 31.

Yusuf Abdi Mohamed, who witnessed the execution, told Bloomberg News on Oct. 28 that Duhulow was a 23-year-old woman who had confessed to adultery.

"She had in fact been raped by three men and had attempted to report this rape to the al-Shabaab militia, which controls Kismayo,'' Amnesty said. `

"It was this act that resulted in her being accused of adultery and detained. None of the men she accused of rape was arrested.''

Somalia is in its 18th year of civil war and hasn't had a functioning central administration since the ouster of former dictator Mohammed Siad Barre in 1991.
Violence has escalated since Ethiopian troops helped Somalia's United Nations-backed government oust the Islamic Courts Union militia from southern and central parts of the country in January 2007.
Last week's stoning was the first such execution in Kismayo since the Islamist al-Shabaab movement captured the city in August and established Shariah courts.
Shariah law operates under a code of Islamic principles first established in the Arab world by the prophet Muhammad in the seventh century.
Amnesty said that some of the Somali journalists who earlier reported Duhulow was 23 had said this age was an estimate based on her physical appearance.
Sheikh Hayakalah, the Sharia court judge, said in remarks broadcast on Radio Shabelle, a Mogadishu-based broadcaster, that Duhulow had officially confirmed her guilt and was ``happy with the punishment under Islamic law.''
``In contradiction to this claim, a number of eyewitnesses have told Amnesty International she struggled with her captors and had to be forcibly carried into the stadium,'' Amnesty said.
The organization said al-Shabaab has created a climate of ``extreme fear'' within the areas the militia controls in Somalia.

Egypt: Sunni scholars sanction 'electronic Jihad'

Cairo, 16 Oct. (AKI) - Attacking American and Israeli websites by hacking and sabotage is allowed under Islamic law and is a form of 'Jihad' or holy war, top Muslim scholars have decreed. The religious edict (fatwa) issued by a committee from the highest authority in Sunni Islam,

Egypt's Al-Azhar University in Cairo, was published on the website of the Islamist Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood movement on Thursday.

"This is considered a type of lawful Jihad that helps Islam by paralysing the information systems used by our enemies for their evil aims," said the fatwa."This Jihad is not different from the armed one. In fact, it might be more important if you consider the global dimensions of the Internet. Whoever wins this war will become the strongest in the realm of information," the fatwa continued.

The Muslim Brotherhood praised the fatwa, which comes in response to dozens of questions from radicals asking to be allowed to destroy Israeli and United States websites.

Last week, the news website of Dubai-based Arabic TV network al-Arabiya was attacked by suspected Shia hackers, who posted a burning Israeli flag to the site.Beneath the flag, a message in Arabic and English read: 'Serious Warning - if attacks on Shia websites continue, none of your websites will be safe.'

As a result, many millions of Americans have had an opportunity to be educated about the ambitions of those who adhere to the Islamic political and legal system known as “Shariah” – namely, the realization through “jihad” of a world-wide and brutally repressive Islamic theocracy.
“Obsession” utilizes actual footage of radical Islamist rallies and calls to violent jihad against America, along with interviews of Muslim and non-Muslim experts on radical Islamism.

Dallas Trial revleals Secretive Security Measures Taken By Holy Land Foundation

DALLAS - The Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development's (HLF) close ties to a Dallas area computer business were discussed extensively in the foundation's terror support trial Tuesday.

Infocom was run by HLF director Ghassan Elashi and his brothers.

On December 17, 2002 Infocom and the Elashis were indicted for financial transactions with Libya, Syria and Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzook.
Infocom received at least $250,000 from Marzook. Infocom was found guilty on all 10 counts and Elashi and his brothers were found guilty on additional charges related to Marzook as well as computer equipment charges.
Ghassan Elashi, who is on trial now for being part of an alleged conspiracy to rout millions of dollars to Hamas, is serving an 80-month prison sentence for his Infocom conviction.

Defense attorneys objected to the use of evidence collected from Infocom, alleging that it amounted to double jeopardy, the principle that a defendant cannot be tried twice for the same crime using the same evidence. But evidence seized during FBI searches at Infocom was admitted despite those objections.

Some of the evidence related to the procedures of Holy Land Foundation.
FBI Agent Robert Miranda testified that there was "a lot of foot traffic between Infocom and the Holy Land Foundation." Since Infocom's office was right across the street from HLF, this interaction was made convenient to the point that the FBI was aware that HLF had internet service across the street.

Inside the Infocom office, FBI agents found a document describing security procedures to be used by HLF employees. Among the subjects outlined in the document were:

Safety of personal residences, work apartments, cars and possessions
Hotel safety
Document Safety
Communication Safety
Telephone Communications
Communication via fax
Communication via live (human) points
Travel and Transportation safety

Federal prosecutor, James Jacks, had Miranda read out each header contained in the document to emphasize the level of security that HLF felt that it needed to implement to avoid detection.

Further information addressed in the courtroom was under the header Communication via live (human points) which stated "Coordinating with the Maintenance Committee in putting in place a covert monitoring system."

Basic security also included "not exposing parts of the work's administrative skeleton." Jacks argued that this information was deemed necessary by HLF in order to prevent anyone from discovering their relations with specially designated terrorists.

Earlier, Miranda discussed people from overseas utilized by HLF. Board meeting minutes from 1999 discussed telephone fundraising, Miranda said.

At these meetings, HLF officials analyzed the difficulties they were having with a shortage of speakers. The shortage prevented the group from holding fundraising events in some major cities.

Investigators were able to connect many of the speakers who were used in the HLF fundraising calls to Hamas, however, by searching in the personal phone book of Hamas leader Marzook.

Marzook was arrested by federal officials in 1995 and his belonging were seized. The phone book contained the names of other Hamas officials, Miranda said.
Not only did the FBI have toll records that show the numbers called, but during the FBI's raid of the HLF offices in 2001, they found phone bills.
Those bills showed calls that were made to a representative of Hamas based in Iran.
Miranda also discussed the family connections between some of the defendants and Hamas officials. Marzook's wife, for example, is Elashi's cousin.
Defendant Mohamed El-Mezain is a cousin of Marzook's.
Defendant Mufid Abdelqader is the half-brother of Hamas leader Khaled Mishaal.
Former HLF Executive Director Shukri Abu Baker's brother was a Hamas leader in Sudan.

Miranda's testimony is expected to continue when court resumes Wednesday morning.

Alms for Jihad Update, October 2008

The reason Alms for Jihad is controversial , is because the entire connection between some Islamic Charities and Islamist Mujhid (Read-al Qaeda or related terrorist) is deliberately set up so that one hand does not know what the other is doing.

If a poor Muslim shows up for food, medical care and receives cash to help them in their small business in a country like Somalia. The Muslim aid worker does not ask if he is also an Islamist Mujhid Emir leading a unit of Shabaab fighters (which is listed as a terrorist group by the US). This may be one of the reasons some aid workers in Somalia have been killed - they are resupplying the enemy.

You see, every American or European hand that:

earned the money
collected the money
Sent the money, (check out the hawala process)
Purchased the supplies
prepared the food
prepared the Small business grants (That were later used to purchase arms in the al Baraka arms market in Somalia.)

They will all vehemently deny they are supporting terrorism.

Yet the net affect is that terrorists are armed and equipped to kill Westerners, and often with them Muslim women and children.

Under English libel law, since these hand-to-hand transactions cannot be linked to a terrorist act, a person may not even hint or suggest it as a possibility.

This is not the case in America.

I finally got a copy of the 2006 book "Alms for Jihad" which exposes groups in this kind of relationship, including NGOs, which was pulped in 2006 in a lawsuit settlement in England, in which where the person who the authors sued never had to show up in court, and never addressed the charges in the book in the open.

Since it took me almost three years to get a copy, I intend to give a chapter by chapter review of what is said in this 374 page book.

Set "Alms for Jihad Update" in your search software, and I will post my summaries as I get through them

Is Salafism Inherently Racist? - The Jury is Out

In part five of my series Why Blackamerican Muslims Don’t Stand For Justice, I mentioned the racist beliefs held and taught by one of the major leaders of the 1990’s Salafi Movement, Imam Abu Usamah Ath-Thahabi (a Blackamerican), that the Arabs are superior to the non-Arabs (or in other words: the Arabs are the “Master Race”)

My purpose here is to show the insidious nature of this movement in promoting the RACIAL superiority of Arabs. And while the Salafis happen to be the only ones brazen (or foolish) enough to openly preach this swill, it is nevertheless a tightly held secret in many classical Islamic texts. These Salafis actually want to give this repugnant teaching the status of religious dogma. Needless to say, Abu Usamah’s email quoted below explains why so many brothers in that movement suffer from inferiority complexes and try to be Arab. This is what he wrote: below the fold

Omar Bakri Muhammad Salafi or Kafir?

Sheikh Omar Bakri is an Islamist leader of many Salafiyya in England. He left and went to Lebanon. Though a British Citizen, He is no longer allowed to return there.

In this very recent interview, he explains why the true Salafi must kill innocent women and children, and that the terrorism of the Mujahadin is blessed and the terrorism of the Americans is deploreable.

It is, of course, a true representation of Salfi doctrine. Ask your Imam if he is Kafir, or if his da'wa is true for the Salafiyya.

This is my concern for the American. - Where will the doctrine lead the American Salafi?

Bakri: "It was not just the Twin Towers, but also the U.S. Department of Defense... The 9/11 operation is a matter subject to personal judgment. Some people were against, and others supported it…

"Interviewer: "When explosives are placed on trains and in coffee shops... If I am under occupation, and I carry out attacks against it, that's one thing...

"Bakri: "You can call such operations terrorist operations par excellence. But today, America represents the camp of Western terrorism, and there is another camp of terrorism within Islam.

But there are two types of terrorism: Blessed and deplorable. The same is true with regard to violence. Violence can either take lives or save lives. In both cases, it is violence.

America's violence is meant to take lives, and so its terrorism is deplorable, whereas the violence the mujahideen use for defense and retaliation is meant to protect lives and defend honor. Their terrorism is blessed.

Not all terrorism is deplorable.[...]"The problem with Hizbullah is that it believes in resistance for the sake of the land. We believe that fighting for the sake of land..."

Interviewer: "... is forbidden, because fighting should be for the sake of Allah."

Bakri: "I was created from mud, I fight for the mud of Shaba', and I will be buried in mud - my entire history is muddy... I fight for the sake of God who lives and does not die. I fight to glorify the word of Allah. If in Lebanon, they would fight to glorify the word of Allah, I'd say: Fine, let them fight for Shaba', liberate it, and instate the law of Allah. But if all they want is to liberate the Shaba' Farms, and then instate what is known here as the 'Lebanese law' - I do not accept this."Interviewer: "You are talking about Lebanon as if you do not belong here."

Paying For Jihad Through Dallas Companies

I understand that it may be true that there is a a large technical staffing group in Texas, (Dallas?)I will call Company *** , reverse money laundering money for Jihad in an novel way. Some of its client companies, I will call Company $$$ pays the funds and Company *** makes sure it gets to the Jihadis.

It works like this:

Company $$$ writes a contract to Company *** , and pays an agreed upon hourly rate for a specific technical consultant's services, which it may legitimately need.
There is a non-written agreement that the hourly contract rate is already marked up a certain (small percentage) and that money will be used for Jihad or to "promote Islam".
The consultant works the hours, turns a time card signed by a $$$ company officer.
Company *** then pays the contractor, it's employee, a lessor rate
(nothing special here - that's how it works in the staffing industry).
Company *** then bills Company $$$, who writes the check
This is all clean and auditable

At this point Company *** budgets generous matching donation programs, and makes donations to target non-profit groups in the name of a variety of their many employees working all over Dallas.

If a Company *** employee finds out that a donation has been made in their name they may be informed that this is a "benefit" they offer the employee, though it does not befit the employee directly.
Employees may or may not know about the programs, or are coached into selecting the receiving institutions, and are often unfamiliar with American ways of doing business.
The Receiving Targeted non-profit understands that any funds from Company *** are designated for funding for food, medical supplies, clothes, petrol, and "miscellaneous expenses in cash" to geographic areas where Jihadist groups show up as "the poor."

Find smaller high-tech H1-(b) visa staffing companies in the area who get stiffed in this way - they will tell you about Company ***
Look at their employee donation and donation matching programs
Hawalas (remittance companies) are the only way many consultant's can get their money home. - Are donations being handled this way?

Death of Canadian Somali Saleman Abdirahman in Denver

In the Shimron Letters, a blog that posts news about Jihad in Africa, there is a recent post about a Canadian of Somali decent who was found dead two days ago in a a Denver Hotel room, with a pound of Sodium Cyanide poison, a week before the city is to the host the Democractic National Convention.

Somalia is a predomintly Sunni country, and the Southern Parts of the country are dominated by a number of Salafi Jihadist groups. several of which have al Qaeda connections.

According to an anonymous tip I received this morning, Masood's brother Hamid* (former imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester) has been busy travelling from Pakistan to Dubai, where he purchased two luxury condos, one for himself and one for his brother Masood.

did any of that money to buy condos in Dubai come from the Muslim American Society (MAS) fundraisers for Masood? MAS has held several fundraisers for Masood over the past two years now, including one held in Roxbury two weeks ago, down the street from the Islamic Society of Boston.
Masood's attorneys filed a memorandum to the court in May 2008, saying that Masood had an income of -$961, and they requested that the court waive his fine. From a leafy 52-acre estate in Sharon to a luxury condo in Dubai? Not too shabby.

North American Islamic Trust Again Hits the Public Eye

The Muslim-outreach coordinator to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama has resigned amid questions about his involvement in an Islamic investment fund and various Islamic groups.Schiff Hardin.

Chicago lawyer Mazen Asbahi, who was appointed volunteer national coordinator for Muslim American affairs by the Obama campaign on July 26, stepped down Monday after an Internet newsletter wrote about his brief stint on the fund's board, which also included a fundamentalist imam. A corporate lawyer at the firm of Schiff Hardin LLP, Mr. Asbahi tendered his resignation after he and the Obama campaign received emailed inquiries about his background from The Wall Street Journal.

He did not respond to the email or a message left at his law office; the campaign released a letter in which Mr. Asbahi said he did not want to be a distraction.

In 2000, Mr. Asbahi briefly served on the board of Allied Assets Advisors Fund, a Delaware-registered trust. Its other board members at the time included Jamal Said, the imam at a fundamentalist-controlled mosque in Illinois.

"I served on that board for only a few weeks before resigning as soon as I became aware of public allegations against another member of the board," Mr. Asbahi said in his resignation letter.

Other Web sites, some pro-Republican and others critical of fundamentalist Islam, also have reported on the background of Mr. Asbahi. He is a frequent speaker before several groups in the U.S. that scholars have associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Justice Department named Mr. Said an unindicted co-conspirator in the racketeering trial last year of several alleged Hamas fund-raisers, which ended in a mistrial.
He has also been identified as a leading member of the group in news reports going back to 1993.
Mr. Said is the imam at the Bridgeview Mosque in Bridge-view, Ill., outside Chicago.
He left the board of the Islamic fund in 2005, Securities and Exchange Commission filings state. A message left for Mr. Said at the mosque was not returned.

Allied Asset Advisors is a subsidiary of the North American Islamic Trust. The trust, which is supported financially by the government of Saudi Arabia, holds title to many mosques in the U.S. and promotes a conservative brand of Islam compatible with the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood and also akin to the fundamentalist style predominant in Saudi Arabia.

Allied executives did not respond to inquiries.

Qutbism : Encyclopedia II - Qutbism - The Tenets of Qutbism
The main tenet of Qutbist ideology is the belief that almost all of Islam is heading into the era of pre-Islamic Arabs or Jahiliyya, and must be reconquered.

It is one of the two main strands of Salafi thought, the other being Wahhabism. Qutb outlined his ideas in his book Milestones.
The main principle of Qutbism is clearly stated when Qutb writes that "Muslims have drifted away from their religion and their way of life, and have forgotten that Islam appointed them as representatives of God and made them responsible for learning all the sciences and developing various capabilities......

The main tenet of Qutbist ideology is that the Muslim community (or the Muslim community outside of a vanguard fighting to reestablish it) "has been extinct for a few centuries"

[2] having reverted to Godless ignorance (Jahiliyya), and must be re-conquered for Islam.

The importance of offensive Jihad to eliminate Jahiliyya not only from the Islamic homeland but from the face of the earth.

Some, such as Dale C. Eikmeier, a strategic planner at the US Army War College, give a broader definition of Qutbism. Eikmeier calls it "a fusion of puritanical and intolerant Islamic orientations," that includes not only Qutb's ideas but those of Abul Ala Maududi, Hassan al Banna, and even Shia elements,"to justify armed jihad in the advance of Islam, and other violent methods utilized by twentieth century militants. ...

Qutbism advocates violence and justifies terrorism against non-Muslims and apostates in an effort to bring about the reign of God.

Wahhabism (Arabic: Al-Wahhābīyya الوهابية) or Wahabism is a conservative reformist call of Sunni Islam attributed to Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Wahhab, an 18th century scholar from what is today known as Saudi Arabia, who advocated a return to the practices of the first three generations of Islamic history.

Salafi Islam

Salafi is a term often used to describe fundamentalist islamic thought.
The teachings of the reformer Abd Al-Wahhab are more often referred to by adherents as Salafi, that is, "following the forefathers of Islam."

This branch of Islam is often referred to as "Wahhabi," a term that many adherents to this tradition do not use.
Members of this form of Islam call themselves Muwahhidun ("Unitarians", or "unifiers of Islamic practice"). They use the Salafi Da'wa or Ahlul Sunna wal Jama'a. Wahhabism is a particular orientation within Salafism.
Most puritanical groups in the Muslim world are Salafi in orientation, but not necessarily Wahhabi.
The Salafiyyah are a movement, and like the Sufis, can come from the Maliki, the Shafi, the Hanbali, or the Hanafi.
But, that said, the Salafiyyah movement, is primarily confirmed to the Hanbali, and in particular the Wahhabiyyah, and their theological equivalents.
The Salafiyyah movement to return Islam to it's purest roots (like the Islamic Amish!) has taken as reference points the teachings of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal , Al Barbahaaree, or Al Laalikaa'ee, or Ash-Shaatibee, or Adh-Dhahabee, or Al Layth ibn Sa'd, or Abu Haneefah, and other scholars who adhered to the methodology of the salaf.

As-Salaf us-Salih (or briefly: the Salaf) refers to the first and best three generations of Muslims. They are the

Companions (Sahabah) of the Prophet (S),
their immediate followers (Tabiun), and
the followers of the Tabi'in. The meaning in the Arabic language is "Those who precede, have gone before".

It is a word used by the earliest scholars for "The first three generations of Muslims" and those who are upon their way in accordance with the Ahaadeeth of the Messenger Muhammad (sallAllaahu` alayhi wa sallam) which is reported in Saheeh al-Bukhaaree:

"The best of people/mankind is my generation, then those that follow them, then those that follow them. "

The description "Salafi" is the name of a group of Muslims who try as hard as they can to imitate the Blessed Prophet in every aspect of life. Sometimes it may seem that the Salafis emphasize the laws and punishments of Islam so much that they make you feel there is no Islamic love and mercy.

This is because they are sometimes very zealous in their views. A true Salafi values Tawhid, singling out Allah in all acts of worship:

in supplication,
in seeking aid,
in seeking refuge in times of ease and hardship,
in sacrifice,
in making vows,
in fearing and hoping and total reliance, and so on.

A true Salafi actively seeks to remove shirk (polytheism) with all his capacity.

They tend to be conservative on women's issues.

The Salafi Da'wah is that of the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

It is claimed to be the Religion of Islam - pure and free from any additions, deletions or alterations.

In the United States,

Salafism has been equated by some with radicalism and terrorism in some newspaper articles, books, and public discourse. However, “Salafism” is not inherently synonymous with violence, terrorism, or radicalism. Many Salafis throughout the world are doctrinally rigid, but peaceful.

It is important to distinguish between the following groups, thought of (perhaps) as concentric circles:

"Jihadist Salafis" - such as the followers of al-Qaeda and like-minded local groups;
"Salafis" - those who believe that the imitation of the behavior of the Prophet’s closest companions should be the basis of the social order;
"Islamists" - a still broader category,which includes anyone who thinks that the precepts of Islam - however interpreted - should be fundamental to the political and social order; and,
"Discontented Muslims" - people who identify themselves as Muslims,and who are unhappy with their life prospects, with the justice of their societies,and/or with the state of the wider world.

The Salafi jihadist movement has attracted rootless and or committed internationalist militants.

They fight for the jihad, seeking to re-create the Muslim ummah and shariat to build an Islamic community.

Simultaneously conservatives and radical, they form a global network that has attracted Muslims from around the world to fight jihad in Kashmir, Bosnia, Chechnya, Afghanistan, and the Philippines.

The salafi-jihadist movement in Central Asia and the Caucasus is more localized -- an expression of identity in areas such as Ferghana, villages in Daghestan, and upper Gharm valley.

In Central Asia, the term "Wahabi" refers to fundamentalists who come from Pakistan or Afghanistan, but they are not necessarily a political movement. For example, Wahabis in Tajikistan do not recognize themselves as a political alignment.

However, most Central Asian regimes use the term Wahabi more broadly to describe Islamic religious movements outside the states' control.

Mursi al-Sayid Umar joins an ever growing list of al-Qaeda [offenseive name Deleted] who have had a wake up call with a missile fired by the US Government (CIA), they got Ayro in Somaila (the leader of al-Shabaab terror group), Abu Laith al-Libi and Khalid Habib, and it appears that Adam Gadahn (killed in Paki land) might very well have joined the group too, no verification as of yet.

There is a second list of al-Qaeda facilitators that run jihad websites hosted in the USA and in the UK that promote terrorism via the Internet and continue to recruit potential suicide bombers to attack US citizens and facilities, these facilitators could become CIA "targets" in the not too distant future
The CIA does operate with contract "employees" inside the USA. I have made mention of all three of these al-Qaeda facilitators in the past two weeks and they know of who I speak.

Known by the nickname Abu Khabab, the 55-year-old served as a trainer at al-Qaeda's Derunta camp in Afghanistan when it was set up in the late 1990s. There, he oversaw Project al-Zabadi, or "curdled milk," al-Qaeda's research program into chemical and biological weapons.

While at Derunta, Umar authored training manuals on how to make toxic weapons, and conducted a variety of experiments, including exposing dogs to cyanide.
He was an expert on conventional explosives and taught courses on their use as well. Copies of his training manuals were recovered by the U.S. military after the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
Umar grew up in northern Egypt and graduated from Alexandria University in 1975 with a science degree.
He served time in prison in the early 1980s as one of hundreds of people charged with conspiracy in the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981.
He left Egypt to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan in the late 1980s and was injured in 1988 in an explosion while experimenting with chemicals, said Omar Rushdi, an Egyptian political exile who knew Abu Khabab from those days.
Rushdi said the bomb maker was slow to join al-Qaeda and not a close personal ally of his fellow Egyptian, Ayman al-Zawahiri, because he disagreed with the group's strategy and "didn't want to join the project against America."
Rushdi suggested that Umar changed his mind and agreed to lead Project al-Zabadi in part because he needed money, and al-Qaeda was willing to pay for his services.
Under its Rewards for Justice Program, the U.S. government had posted a $5 million reward for information leading to the arrest or capture of Umar.
"He's a trainer," a senior U.S. intelligence official said. "We haven't seen him in a leadership position, or calling the shots.
"The U.S. reward notice for his capture says he "may be residing in Pakistan," although other reports have suggested he escaped to the Pankisi Gorge in the Caucasus region after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

Judge Refuses to Dismiss Lawsuit Against the Islamic Society of Tulsa,

On Wednesday, July 23, District Judge Linda Morrissey denied motions by the Islamic Society of Tulsa, Mujib Cheema, and the North American Islamic Trust to dismiss Jamal Miftah's lawsuit against them. Miftah is suing Cheema, IST, and NAIT, as well as several other individual leaders in IST for assault and battery, defamation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Earlier this year, Judge Gordon McAllister granted several motions to dismiss, but gave Miftah's attorneys 20 days to present an amended petition. It was this amended petition that was the subject of the latest motions to dismiss, which were denied.

Anti-Jihad Muslim in Tulsa Persecuted by Local Islamic Society

In recent years CAIR and the various other American front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood have instituted a practice commonly known as “lawfare”.

By suing prominent individuals who speak out against Islamization, the deep pockets of the Islamic groups are brought to bear against people who can ill afford the legal fight.
Along with libel tourism and the full-court press in the media, it’s an effective way of silencing the critics of Islam.

Now one of the little guys is giving the Islamists a taste of their own medicine, and he’s a Muslim himself. Jamal Miftah is a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He says that back in 2005 he spoke up condemn Islamic terrorism, and as a result was threatened and assaulted by various members of his mosque.

He has responded by filing suit against the Islamic Society of Tulsa, the local chapter of the Islamic Society of North America, and the North American Islamic Trust, as well as a number of individuals — Farooq Ali, Javed Jaliwala, Sheryl Siddiqui, Sandra Rana, Tariq Masood, Muhammad Ashwait, Houssam Elsoueissi a/k/a Abu Waleed, Mujeeb Cheema and Ahmad Kabbani (directors and officers of the IST, or “Shura”), Abdullah Roe and Nooruddin Doe (believed to be members of the Tulsa Mosque), charging them with assault, defamation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

al-Moqrin gives Instructions for Urban Jihad Operations in al-Ekhlaas

Urban cells should seek economic targets, such as Jewish investments in Muslim countries, international companies, international economic experts, exports from 'Crusader countries' and raw materials being 'stolen from Muslim countries by the enemies'."

Surprising? No. But the communique provides a useful display of tactics, ideology, and imaginary grievances like the "theft" of oil. "Jihadist cells urged to kill Canadians," by Ian MacLeod for CanWest News Service, July 28:

OTTAWA - A virulent al-Qaida website has issued a new call for followers to kill Canadians and other westerners and attack oil and economic targets.

The message on the password-protected al-Ekhlaas.net forum was posted July 7, the third anniversary of the London transit massacre. The website is a notorious and favoured site of hardcore jihadists.

Experts are debating the significance of the latest al-Ekhlaas threat calling for the targeting of Christians, especially those from Canada the United States, Britain, Spain, Australia and Italy.
Most unsettling, perhaps, is the instructional nature of the posting.

Details of the Arabic-language posting, entitled "Clandestine work inside the city," were recently translated and reported by the Jamestown Foundation, a conservative Washington think-tank.
Under the nom de guerre Abu Hajar Abdul Aziz al-Moqrin (the former leader of al-Qaida's Saudi wing killed in 2004), the posting explains how a four-unit jihadist cell should be properly trained in urban terror warfare before activation.

An urban cell needs

a commanding unit
an intelligence unit
a logistics unit
an execution unit

The units are to communicate indirectly through using the dead letter box technique

Further, the intelligence cell that collects information on a target must not know the purpose of the information.
The cell that secures weapons and equipment must not know the target or the time of execution.

Al-Moqrin warns jihadists not to attack religious figures because it harms the cause. Instead, urban cells should seek economic targets, such as Jewish investments in Muslim countries, international companies, international economic experts, exports from "Crusader countries" and raw materials being "stolen from Muslim countries by the enemies," with al-Moqrin calling for attacks on oil wells, pipelines and oil tankers.

Human targets, according to the Jamestown synopsis, should be prioritized as follows:

1. Jews: Jews from Israel and the United States have priority over Jews from Britain and France.

2. Christians, especially those from Canada, the United States, Britain, Spain, Australia and Italy.

3. Apostates, particularly Muslim leaders who keep close ties with Jewish and "Christian governments," such as Egyptian President Husni Mubarak and the leaders of the Gulf States.

4. Secular individuals, including "spies and security officials" who "protect Jews and Christians."
Terrorism experts are divided on the message's import.

The reference to Canada is fairly peripheral and embedded in a broad anti-'kufar' (non-believer) strategy targeting Jews, Christians, apostate Muslim leaders, and 'secular officials'," says Wesley Wark, a security expert and visiting research professor at the University of Ottawa's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

"The main interest in the story would seem to me the effort taken on some jihadi websites to try to encourage professionalism and clandestinity in terrorist operations.

"This is surely a response to the knowledge that home-grown and loosely affiliated terror networks will normally be lacking in operational knowledge and experience, especially around surveillance and security. The website is another reminder that the Internet is a powerful tool for jihad and al-Qaida and recognized by them as such."

The latest message, Rudner said Monday, should be viewed with real concern, but not alarm, for three reasons:

- al-Ekhlaas is a legitimate militant Islamist website;
- the call to target oil and energy infrastructure and individuals is specific;
- and, the message may be a formal warning required by Sharia law before jihadists can attack.

Salafi Communities in America II

Jafar Sheikh Idris and Sheikh Ali al-Timimi. In the DC area, they began in the 1990’s very small with a small office in DC for an organization called the Society for the Adherence to the Sunnah which was where the program of Ali al-Timimi was based.

The office was run by Idris Palmer and Friday night lectures were given at the home of Jafar Sheikh Idris. The classes at the home of Sheikh Jaffar created a brotherhood amongst the students that grew and attracted an extremely diverse group of students from all racial and economic backgrounds. Eventually these classes would be given by Sheikh Ali al-Timimi and at other times by Sheikh Jaffar’s son Yusuf.

Under the tenure of Sheikh Ali, the classes would expand tremendously and the tapes and CD’s of the lectures would be mass produced, sold and spread all over the US, Canada and the UK.

Sheikh Ali became such a popular local figure that his classes became “the place to be” for the youth of the masjids throughout the DC-area. People would come who were raised in Muslim homes.

Some were even secular or sufi and generally very far from the Salafi Dawah. The attraction of Sheikh Ali was the fact that this was a man who was born and raised in America, spoke in clear English, and not only had a great knowledge of the deen but was college educated, an IT professional, a cancer researcher and a very serious intellectual. This was a man who could take the knowledge of the Salaf and make it applicable to your everyday life and could speak in a language we all understood.

Contrary to media reports, he was not a firebrand and seldom raised his voice, and sounded like an NPR host most of the time. How he differed from the other Salafi leaders in the community is that he would - from time to time - address political issues and acknowledged the world that we live in.
Eventually the brothers put together an organization called “Dar al-Arqam” where everyone would come together for the classes and get together for food and laughs afterwards. We used to have volleyball tournaments after the classes and did other activities together.

There were NUMEROUS active sisters that would attend these classes at Dar Al Arqam from all over the area. These sisters were also highly educated and brilliant women who loved Islam and not victims of misogynist pigs.

Generally, I also want to add that the people in this DC salafi circle tended to be thinkers, and highly educated individuals - including the African-Americans - but those of us who were not educated were made to feel welcome and a part of the family.

There was a number of African-American brothers in this circle who had college degrees and good jobs particularly in the IT field.Those were some very good times. The best times of my life…

Even during the time of growth, there was an overzealous element that and only grew more and more narrow. They were known amongst other Muslims for causing an uproar at local masjids where they would publicly confront the imams and lecturers on what they perceived as bid’ah.

They quickly became disliked by the leaders of many local Muslim communities. This kind of attitude and ill advised outbursts stopped the amazing growth from being even more than it was. In the beginning, it really centered around a couple of issues:-

Whether or not it was a MUST to call oneself a salafi even if he/she adheres to the salafi dawah-
Loyalty to the Saudi throne even if one is not Saudi (They will say “the rulers”, but they mean the Saudi throne) On the first issue, there were many of the opinion that it was almost sinful to not distinguish oneself as a salafi and became more and more belligerent and uncompromising over time.
The zealots were also prone to banging brothers over the head on their position on the Saudi King. It was not good enough to recognize that Saudi Arabia printed copies of the Qur’ans and gave money to spread the dawah. One – in these people’s minds - must be loyal to and praise the Saudi rulers. You couldn’t even remain silent on the issue.
IANA (Islamic Assembly of North America) on one side and QSS (Qur’an and Sunnah Society of North America) on the other. I
Sheikh Ali give this lecture in the UK on it in an effort to arrest this cancer’s growth. That lecture got Sheikh Ali permanently thrown out of salafiyyah.

Salafi Communities in America I

"East Orange” and its “satellites”As the word spread via word of mouth, conferences, tapes, magazines, websites and email lists, the salafi dawah grew stronger and more popular.

the Islamic Center of America (ICOA) project in East Orange, NJ (E.O.) led by Abu Muslimah. During this time, E.O. gained a reputation amongst Salafis as “the best Muslim community in the US” and many moved there from other communities to help build the community
. Unlike the remnant salafi movements today, E.O. did have some brothers in the ranks that were professionals and/or college educated. There were IT professionals, school teachers, Graphic Artists, engineers, and successful businessmen and women in the ranks.Most importantly, Abu Muslimah himself has a degree in Business Management from Rutgers.
Over time, they had the most impressive salafi accomplishments that I knew of: A school that went up to 12th grade with certified Muslim teachers and students that often went on to college, a huge Eid sized musullah, a festive atmosphere - especially after Jumuah - plenty of Muslim vendors on Fridays, a men’s and womens lounge, bookstore, Janazah washing facilities, food bar, sleeping facilities for guests, exercise room, and other things all in that building. The bookstore distributed tapes all over the United States and Canada as well as many parts of Europe and there was also an independent Hajj package and a Muslim security team.
It was these accomplishments that caused more reasonable brothers to overlook a lot of the overzealous brothers that were in the rank and file. It would be these types of brothers that would lead the downfall across the country.

In Philadelphia, the salafi community didn’t achieve what the community in E.O. had, but they still had a large number of salafis there. By everyone’s estimation, the largest number of salafis in the country, but still not the more complete community that was in E.O.

In spite of their numbers, they were a satellite to E.O. at that time.
In Philly, the salafis were in such large numbers that they set the trend for the other Muslims. Big beards and niqaabs became a normal thing even for people that were not salafi.
The African-American Muslim community in Philly began to appear more Salafi and gradually incorporated Salafi norms of doing things into their speeches, dress and acts of worship.
It even got to the point in Philly that non-Muslims even started to dress like the salafis. It was the latest trend.

Outside of EO/Northern New Jersey and Philadelphia, there were some small salafi communities that formed in other cites that consisted of brothers that either could not afford to move to E.O. or Philly or were trying to form a community in their locality and get those from even smaller communities than their’s to move there as well. Some examples of these communities like this were Atlanta, Kansas City, and Nashville. However, all these cities were also ‘satellites’ of E.O. during that time.

The smaller communities never really developed for several reasons, but the most prominent reasons at that time were lack of leadership and brothers eventually leaving for E.O. or Philly.

However, like on Ghostbusters, there was a pink slime lying underneath that no one was addressing that would contribute to ultimately bringing the entire dawah down.

Northern Virginia

A lot of visits back in the day led to the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC during the 1990’s was becoming the most active and vibrant Muslim community in America as a whole.

(E.O. was the best SALAFI community. Northern Virginia was the best community overall - in my opinion. The DC area community was not founded by Salafis, rather by a concoction of organizations affiliated with the religious outreach programs of the Saudi government, organizations affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and its American branches mainly being the Muslim American Society, and a variety of other mostly ethnic based groups such as Afghans, Turks, and South Asians.

By the time the 1990’s rolled around, Salafis were becoming a major force in the area due to these major-factors: - The opening of the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences of America (the Mahad) in Fairfax, VA, which trained American-Muslims for free in Arabic and religious studies and many went on to study at the universities in Mecca and Medina. -

Our education initiatives focus on developing standards of Islamic knowledge and expertise, training and certification programs, as well as guidelines and practice models for Imams and masjids.

In 2008 we will establish a council of scholars and imams and a task force for Masjid development, and inshaAllah conduct one training program for Masjid best practices.

Dawah [islamic education or schooling] is an obligation. Conversions in many cities is decreasing, few masjids have new Muslim programs and many new reverts leave Islam.

As such, we are developing new models and materials for presenting the message of Islam, primarily to the age group 18-30, using hip-hop and the arts.
In 2008 we plan to organize a Dawah event with entertainment, speeches, food and bazaar that tours America.
Additionally, we will develop and produce materials geared towards new Muslims and a new Muslim curriculum that can be implemented by local communities..
To help achieve these objectives we have formed a Dawah Task Force.

Pattern of American Jihad

After conducting numerous case studies at the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point, New York, research has demonstrated a pattern for radicalization among Americans who embrace jihad, whether foreign or US-born.

The cases of the Lackawanna Six, the Portland Seven, and the Virginia Jihad Group
as well as John Walker Lindh, Adam Gadahn and others demonstrate the need to travel overseas to receive training.

In all of the above cases, the individuals traveled, or attempted to travel, to Pakistan or Afghanistan.
As the base of al-Qaeda's leadership and the site of the first jihad, the area continues to be one of the primary destinations for mujahideen seeking training.
These individuals and others from the US may have arrived at LeT camps, rather than at the Farouq camp or others that have been under Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda, because they enjoy far less scrutiny.

Founded shortly after 1986 as the military wing of the Center for Da'wa and Guidance, LeT initially helped Pakistani mujahideen enter the Afghan jihad against the Soviet Union.

In the 1990s, they focused their efforts on Kashmir and have two of their training camps in Muzaffarabad, the capital of the Pakistan-administered section of the disputed province. LeT also claims to have trained thousands of combatants to join the mujahideen in Afghanistan, Kashmir, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chechnya, Kosovo and the Philippines.

Clearly, among American Muslims radicalized by militant Salafi Islam, LeT camps in Pakistan became a center for incoming mujahideen, as did bin Laden's guesthouse in Peshawar two decades ago.

These cases all suggest that ideology, above anything else, is the common identity among group members. Their belief and commitment to the Salafi movement and its aims to purify Islam, which is the foundation on which bin Laden and other jihadist leaders have built their platforms, was the common factor that bound together these diverse individuals with various ethnic, national and linguistic backgrounds.

Even a cursory look at the Brent case reveals ties to members of Ali al-Timimi's northern Virginia jihadist group and, through them, a much larger world of official Saudi funding and militant Salafi influence.

For nearly all the terrorism cases involving radical Islam, the subjects began their journey with the Salafi Islam offered by the Saudi establishment, its leading scholars, and its prestigious institutions in Mecca and Medina.

Although they are clearly responsible for a portion of the radicalized Muslims now on a course for militancy, whether headed for a jihadist front in Iraq, Somalia or Lebanon or in the United States or the United Kingdom, those same individuals who have committed themselves to the cause cannot be effective without adequate training.

Such individuals are encouraged - by Ali al-Timimi and Abu Musab al-Suri alike - to seek training in a place such as Pakistan as an essential stage in their path to truly serving the jihad.

Profile of an Ameriican Salafi

On July 26, a former Washington cab driver and resident of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for providing material support to a terrorist group.

Ohio-born Mahmud Faruq Brent, 32, admitted to attending training camps run by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT, Army of the Pure) in 2002, a Pakistan-based jihadist group established during the 1980s campaign against the Soviets in Afghanistan. After training at various locations in Pakistan, Brent returned to the United States, residing in Baltimore when he was arrested in August 2005.

Brent told Tarik Shah - who pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to al-Qaeda - that he had been up in the mountains training with the mujahideen. [1]
Through Shah, Brent's training is linked to other cases of Americans who attended LeT-run camps in Pakistan.
After Shah's arrest, he agreed to record conversations with Brent in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In Shah's cellular telephone, along with Mahmud al-Mutazzim, another name Brent used, was the contact information for Seifullah Chapman, who also knew Brent. Chapman, a former marine, was part of the "Virginia Jihad Group", another informal network convicted of terrorism-related charges stemming from their training in Pakistan.
He was sentenced in 2005 to a 65-year prison term.

As disturbing as these cases are individually, collectively they demonstrate an even more troubling trend of radicalized American Muslims -

bound by Salafi ideology
Receiving training overseas and returning to the United States for potential future operations.

The Virginia Jihad Group

Based out of Falls Church, Virginia, the informal Virginia Jihad Group was led by Ali al-Timimi. A US citizen, Timimi was sentenced to life in prison for soliciting others to levy war against the United States.

Eleven people were charged in the case, and the prosecutors successfully argued that the network was part of the jihadist threat akin to al-Qaeda. Timimi was born in Washington, his father a lawyer for the Iraqi Embassy.

At age 15, he moved with his family to Saudi Arabia. While there, he grew interested in Islam, inevitably the Salafi variety that is espoused by the Saudi religious establishment.

After returning to the US, he received a PhD in computational biology from George Mason University in Virginia. In addition to his academic pursuits, Timimi was an Islamic teacher in the northern Virginia area.

Yet he was also involved with the Islamic Assembly of North America (IANA), a group based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that receives funding from the Saudis to promote Salafi Islam in the US, especially in the prison system.

Naturally, Timimi's scholarly ties, more than anything, reveal his ideological proclivities.

Establishing a center for Islamic education, Timimi contacted the well-known Egyptian-born Salafi Abd al-Rahman Abd al-Khaliq and translated his works into English. Abd al-Khaliq openly promoted the Salafi Islam prominent in the Persian Gulf region, and privately encouraged more militant Salafism among his followers, telling them that US troops were legitimate targets of the jihad.
Ties to Salafi organizations Timimi's work for IANA - which included leading a five-person delegation to Beijing in 1995, where he defended female circumcision at an international women's conference - ties him into a much broader circle of Salafis, such as those in the Saudi Salafi establishment.
Like many others who have been a part of that movement, he sought more militant teachings that condoned violence against Americans.

Yet the path to militancy often begins with seemingly benign teachings at austere mosques and Islamic centers. Commonly called Wahhabi, they call themselves Salafi, but for purposes of da'wa (proselytizing) and education, they do not emphasize their denomination.

It is simply presented as "pure" Islam, and theirs is a purification movement. A former chairman of IANA, Muhammad al-Ahmari, told the New York Times that as of 2001, roughly half of his organization's funding came from the Saudi government, with the remainder primarily coming from private individual donations from the Gulf region.

IANA received at least US$3 million from 1995 through 2002, which funded the distribution of 530 packages containing Korans, tapes, lectures and other instructional Salafi educational material to prisoners in the US.

Part of the funds, however, also went to disseminating what is among the most militant Salafi material to date in the US.

The group's webmaster, Sami Omar Hussayen, was a graduate student in Idaho when he posted two fatwas from Saudi Salafi-Jihadis Salman al-Awda and Safar al-Hawali, which incited jihad against Americans.

Sami's uncle, Saleh Hussayen, is a high-ranking Saudi minister who gave at least $100,000 to IANA. He was also a director of a northern Virginia organization (the Safa Group) with, the US government contends, about 100 front companies operating under it to launder money to al-Qaeda through Isle of Man and Swiss bank accounts.

Those raids, which took place in late 2001 and early 2002, have not yet come to trial.
More inexplicable yet, Hussayen also came under scrutiny for a trip to the US, where, on September 10, 2001, he stayed at the same Marriott Residence Inn near the Washington area's Dulles Airport as three of the Saudi hijackers who crashed Flight 77 into the Pentagon the following day.
Hussayen was questioned by the FBI, but there was no evidence he actually met or interacted with the hijackers. He was said to feign a seizure during the interview and taken to the hospital, where he was declared to be in good health.
He returned to Saudi Arabia and to his post as minister of religious endowments, overseeing the two holy mosques in Mecca and Medina.

Salafism (Arabic: سلفي "predecessors" or "early generations"), is a Sunni Islamic school of thought that takes the pious ancestors (Salaf) of the patristic period of early Islam as exemplary models.

[1] Early usage of the term appears in the book Al-Ansab by Abu Sa'd Abd al-Kareem al-Sama'ni, who died in the year 1166 (562 of the Islamic calendar).

Under the entry for the ascription al-Salafi he stated, "This is an ascription to the salaf, or the predecessors, and the adoptation of their school of thought based upon what I have heard." He then mentions an example or more of people who were utilizing this ascription in his time.[2] However, an even earlier ascription of the term Salaf was used by Muhammad who noted, "I am the best Salaf for you."[3]

Salafis view the first three generations of Muslims, who are Muhammad's companions, and the two succeeding generations after them, the Tabi‘in and the Taba‘ at-Tabi‘in, as examples of how Islam should be practiced.

This principle is derived from the following Sunni hadith by

Muhammad:
“The people of my generation are the best, then those who follow them, and then those who follow the latter (i.e. the first three generations of Muslims).[4]”

The principal tenet of Salafism is that Islam was perfect and complete during the days of Muhammad and his companions, but that undesirable innovations have been added over the later centuries due to materialist and cultural influences.

Salafism seeks to revive a practice of Islam that more closely resembles the religion during the time of Muhammad.[5]

Salafism has also been described as a simplified version of Islam, in which adherents follow a few commands and practices.[6]

Salafism is often used interchangeably with "Wahhabism". Adherents usually reject this term because it is considered derogatory and because they believe that Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Wahhab did not establish a new school of thought nor self-describe themselves as such.[citation needed]

Typically, adherents used terms like "Muwahidoon," "Ahle Hadith,"[7] or "Ahl at-Tawheed."[8]

This fundamental view of Islam is the belief system which promotes the doctrine of the external Jihad, which in its final stages, supports Muslims at war to bring non-adherents into the Umma (Muslim multi-national state, roughly meaning "the people").

Those who hold this belief system have been sending "missionaries" (this is not an islamic term) around the world for generations.

It is from this religious conviction that Islamists around the world believe that war with any non-islamic state (including secular states where Muslims dominate) is eventually neccessary.

Those who believe their own state should be Islamic may choose Jihad, going to war, to bring their own country into submission to God. These may be called Islamists.

When their war goes beyond their country, they may plug into a network of multi-national Jihadists called "al Qaeda" or "the Network"

My purpose here is track information about Salafism in America, since some have decided since they know theyt are Muslims first, and though they are themselves American, they are already at war with America.

Shi'ia Organizations Confused with Salifiyya

The Islamic Society of North America's (ISNA) roots in the Muslim Brotherhood have been strengthened by newly declassified FBI memos and from a second, highly unlikely source.

The records, recently obtained by the Investigative Project on Terrorism through Freedom of Information Act requests, show that FBI agents investigated a parent organization to ISNA, the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), during the mid 1980s.

The FBI investigation concluded that the Muslim Brotherhood members who founded U.S.-based groups had risen to "leadership roles within NAIT and its related organizations," including ISNA, "which means they are in a position to direct the activities and support of Muslims in the U.S. for the Islamic Revolution." The FBI memo also said that:

Within the organizational structure of NAIT, there have been numerous groups and individuals identified as being a part of a covert network of revolutionaries who have clearly indicated there (sic) support for the Islamic Revolution as advocated by the AYATOLLAH KHOMEINI and his government as well as other fanatical Islamic Shiite fundamentalist leaders in the Middle East.

This faction of Muslims have declared war on the United States, Israel and any other country they deem as an enemy of Islam. The common bond between these various organizations is both religious and political with the underlying common goal being to further the holy war (Islamic Jihad).

The FBI memos date back to 1987-88. Dozens of pages of the released files are redacted in their entirety. But others contradict ISNA claims that it "never was, and is not now, affiliated with or influenced by any international organizations including the Muslim Brotherhood." Furthermore, ISNA still considers NAIT an affiliated organization. ISNA's president is an ex-officio NAIT board member and Muzammil Siddiqi, NAIT's chairman, serves on ISNA's governing board.
NAIT holds the deeds to more than a quarter of the mosques in the United States and continuously seeks to build on that volume.

The dispute is important as ISNA officials assert that the organization is a voice of moderation in the American Muslim community, actively courting outreach and dialogue with government officials and leaders of other religions. ISNA President Ingrid Mattson was among the organization's representatives at last week's international interfaith conference in Madrid. As the IPT reported last week, conference organizer Abdullah al-Turki is alleged in civil lawsuits to have ties to a senior Al Qaeda financier and has openly justified Palestinian suicide bombings.
ISNA's denials, however, are challenged by the Chicago Tribune, federal prosecutors in Dallas, internal Muslim Brotherhood documents and the newly declassified FBI memos. ISNA officials have ignored those reports or denied their legitimacy. Their most recent denial came in the wake of a mistrial in the first HLF trial last October. A retrial is scheduled for September.
But in the past month, ISNA co-founder and convicted terrorist Sami Al-Arian acknowledges that he was a Muslim Brotherhood member in 1981 – the year ISNA formed. Click here and read paragraph 6 on page 5, then see Al-Arian's biography to see his claim that he is an ISNA founder.
In his June 24 affidavit, Al-Arian admits for the first time that his former charity, the Islamic Committee for Palestine (ICP) advocated for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a fact he heatedly denied for more than a decade. ICP conferences routinely featured leaders of the PIJ and other terrorist groups.
Similarly, the FBI concluded that ISNA conferences in the 1980s "provided opportunities for the extreme fundamentalist Muslims to meet with their supporters."
Among the recently declassified FBI memos, NAIT activities are described:
Their support of JIHAD (a holy war) in the U.S. has been evidenced by the financial and organizational support provided through NAIT from Middle East countries to Muslims residing in the U.S. and Canada. The organizational support provided by NAIT includes planning, organizing and funding anti-U.S. and anti-Israel demonstrations, pro-PLO demonstrations and the distribution of political propaganda against U.S. policies in the Middle East and in support of the Islamic Revolution as advocated by the (Government of Iran).
ISNA and NAIT are fighting their continued inclusion as unindicted co-conspirators in the Hamas-support trial of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) and five former officials. In a recent rebuttal, prosecutors listed a series of checks routed by ISNA to HLF, often dedicated for "Palestinian Mujahideen" in the memo line. The military wing of Hamas initially was referred to as the Palestinian Mujahideen, prosecutors said.
Internal documents released at the trial show ISNA's founders had been leaders of the Muslim Students Association, which also was founded by Muslim Brotherhood members who came to the U.S. for college. In addition to introducing all the financial transactions between ISNA/NAIT and HLF, prosecutors introduced a Muslim Brotherhood "Explanatory Memorandum" on the group's goals, as the document explains:
The process of settlement is a "Civilization-Jihadist Process" with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny except for those who chose to slack. But, would the slackers and the Mujahedeen be equal.
ISNA is the first U.S.-based organization listed under a section titled "A list of our organizations and the organizations of our friends."
In their brief, prosecutors continue in describing the Explanatory Memorandum:
At the end of the document, the memorandum lists those Muslim Brotherhood organizations that – if they all worked together – could help accomplish this grand objective. These organizations include ISNA, NAIT, the Occupied Land Fund (OLF)(the former name of the Holy Land Foundation), the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), the United Association for Studies and Research (UASR), and others.
The documented links between ISNA and the Muslim Brotherhood have reached critical mass. While it is not illegal to be a part of the Brotherhood, ISNA knows its credibility is at stake here. It appears to have dug in its heels too deeply.

The Salafi-Jihad as a Religious Ideology

The following article demonstrates just how little secularists understand the thinking of The Islamists. They believe that reason and re-education can sway the Salafi-Jihad believer.

Assaf Moghadam assumes (wrongly) that the ultimate goal of the the Salafi-Jihad is an improved quality of life, of peacful and productive co-exsistance, and that if he can persude them that their theology works against better quality of life, they will abandond their religious persuits.

However, he must now assume that they believe their purpose in being alive is to bring the world into submission to God, and that there is no price too high to pay to forward that agenda. They are willing to pay with their life or the lives of others.

"...Accurately labeling the nature of Salafi-jihadist doctrine as a religious ideology is not merely an exercise in academic theorizing, but has important policy implications. Most importantly, it should be obvious that the United States and its allies are not facing a religion — Islam — as their main enemy, but an ideology, namely the Salafi-jihad.

The fact that the Salafi-jihad is no ordinary secular ideology, but a religious one, however, is of additional significance because it renders the attempt to challenge that ideology far more complex.

Salafi-jihadists employ religious rhetoric and symbols to advance their cause. Although they selectively pick from the Islamic tradition only those elements that advance their narrow agenda, they nevertheless draw from the same religious sources that inform the lives and practices of more than a billion other Muslims.
It is for that reason that ordinary Muslims — not to speak of non-Muslims — find it particularly difficult and dangerous to challenge Salafi-jihadists without running the risk of being accused of targeting Islam as a whole.

If the vast majority of non-Muslims find it difficult to strike the right chord between attacking Salafi-jihadists without being perceived as attacking Islam, the hurdles for the United States and its allies seem almost insurmountable. Therefore, a counter-terrorism approach that highlights the corruption of Salafi-jihadist ideology not on religious, but on secular grounds, is more likely to have the desired effect of weakening that ideology's appeal.

Rather than highlighting the doctrinal and theological inconsistencies among Salafi-jihadists, the United States and its allies should grasp every opportunity to highlight the disastrous consequences that Salafi-jihadist violence has wrought on the everyday lives not only of Westerners, but first and foremost on Muslims themselves.

It is a simple, though not sufficiently emphasized fact that the primary victims of Salafi-jihadists are Muslims, who are killed and maimed in far greater numbers than non-Muslims.
Salafi-jihadists openly justify the killing of civilians, including Muslims, under a logic of the ends justifying the means.
It is equally a fact that leaders of Salafi-jihadist organizations hypocritically preach about the benefits of martyrdom, but rarely, if ever, conduct suicidal operations themselves, or send their loved ones on such missions.
It is a fact that al-Qa`ida and associated groups offer no vision for Muslims other than perennial jihad — hardly an appealing prospect.
Waging a battle against a religious ideology such as the Salafi-jihad is a challenging task that requires commitment and ingenuity. Yet, highlighting a few simple, yet damaging facts about the actual results of Salafi-jihadists can go a long way."

Over the last 40 years, small groups of devout Muslim men have gathered in homes in U.S. cities to pray, memorize the Koran and discuss events of the day.

But they also addressed their ultimate goal, one so controversial that it is a key reason they have operated in secrecy: to create Muslim states overseas and, they hope, someday in America as well.

These men are part of an underground U.S. chapter of the international Muslim Brotherhood, the world's most influential Islamic fundamentalist group and an organization with a violent past in the Middle East.

But fearing persecution, they rarely identify themselves as Brotherhood members and have operated largely behind the scenes, unbeknown even to many Muslims.

Still, the U.S. Brotherhood has had a significant and ongoing impact on Islam in America, helping establish mosques, Islamic schools, summer youth camps and prominent Muslim organizations.

It is a major factor, Islamic scholars say, in why many Muslim institutions in the nation have become more conservative in recent decades.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a key chapter in any story about the struggle for the soul of Islam. Formed in Egypt in 1928, the Brotherhood spawned generations of Islamic activists, both peaceful and violent, around the globe.

It is the most influential Islamic fundamentalist organization in the world. In the U.S. it has operated legally but covertly, mimicking clandestine fraternal organizations that operate on a nod and a secret handshake.

Even today, few outside the Islamic inner circles from which it recruits know when, how often or where the Brothers meet to discuss the organization's abstract but pervasive goal: the creation of Islamic states throughout the world, including the U.S.
Leading the U.S. Brotherhood during much of this period was Ahmed Elkadi, an Egyptian-born surgeon and a former personal physician to Saudi Arabia's King Faisal.

He headed the group from 1984 to 1994 but abruptly lost his leadership position. Now he is discussing his life and the U.S. Brotherhood for the first time.

His story, combined with details from documents and interviews, offers an unprecedented look at the Brotherhood in America: how the group recruited members, how it cloaked itself in secrecy and how it alienated many moderate Muslims.

Indeed, because of its hard-line beliefs, the U.S. Brotherhood has been an increasingly divisive force within Islam in America, fueling the often bitter struggle between moderate and conservative Muslims.

Many Muslims believe that the Brotherhood is a noble international movement that supports the true teachings of Islam and unwaveringly defends Muslims who have come under attack around the world, from Chechens to Palestinians to Iraqis.
But others view it as an extreme organization that breeds intolerance and militancy."They have this idea that Muslims come first, not that humans come first," says Mustafa Saied, 32, a Floridian who left the U.S. Brotherhood in 1998.

While separation of church and state is a bedrock principle of American democracy, the international Brotherhood preaches that religion and politics cannot be separated and that governments eventually should be Islamic.

The group also champions martyrdom and jihad, or holy war, as a means of self-defense and has provided the philosophical underpinnings for Muslim militants worldwide.

Many moderate Muslims in America are uncomfortable with the views preached at mosques influenced by the Brotherhood, scholars say. Those experts point to a 2001 study sponsored by four Muslim advocacy and religious groups that found that only a third of U.S. Muslims attend mosques.In suburban Bridgeview, Ill., some moderates say they quit attending the Mosque Foundation because the leadership became too conservative and dominated by Brotherhood members.

Documents obtained by the Tribune and translated from Arabic show that the U.S. Brotherhood has been careful to obscure its beliefs from outsiders. One document tells leaders to be cautious when screening potential recruits.

If the recruit asks whether the leader is a Brotherhood member, the leader should respond, "You may deduce the answer to that with your own intelligence.
Brotherhood members emphasize that they follow the laws of the nations in which they operate.
They stress that they do not believe in overthrowing the U.S. government, but rather that they want as many people as possible to convert to Islam so that one day--perhaps generations from now--a majority of Americans will support a society governed by Islamic law.

Muslims make up less than 3 percent of the U.S. population, but estimates of their number vary widely from 2 million to 7 million.Federal authorities say they have scrutinized the U.S. Brotherhood for years.

Agents currently are investigating whether people with ties to the group have raised and laundered money to finance terrorism abroad.
No terrorism-related charges have been filed.
Former leader Elkadi, who has been questioned at length by federal authorities about the inner workings of the Brotherhood, says the group has served Muslims in the United States well.
He personally helped establish an Islamic community in the Florida Panhandle, with a mosque, school and health clinic. And though he eventually lost it all--even his medical license--some Muslims still view him as a great Islamic leader.

"Islam is for everyone," he says. "It's good for America, good for Muslims too. . . . It's good knowledge, and good knowledge should be available to everyone."Mohammed Mahdi Akef, head of the international Muslim Brotherhood, based in Egypt, lauds Elkadi and the activities of the U.S. Brotherhood.

"They have succeeded in saving the younger generations from melting into the American lifestyle without faith," he says. "They have saved their children."
